Drinking green tea or taking green tea extract supplements helps lower levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol, according to a paper published in this week’s Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

The study investigated the effect of daily green tea in 1000 adults with high cholesterol levels. The researchers note that green tea’s high levels of antioxidants may cause its cholesterol-lowering benefits.

The scientists also note that green tea in beverage form is slightly more effective than in a capsule.
