Replacing carbs with nuts is more effective than cutting carbs alone when treating type 2 diabetes, a University of Toronto research team discovered recently. The study replaced carbohydrate-rich foods in a group of newly diagnosed diabetics’ diets with raw nuts.
The scientists found that the nuts not only improved cardiovascular risk factors such as “good” HDL cholesterol, but nuts also lowered Hemoglobin A1c by more than 60 percent. Hemoglobin A1c is an important indicator of blood sugar control over the long-term. The scientists think that nuts’ high levels of monounsaturated fats improve insulin sensitivity in those with type 2 diabetes.

Good Day,
I enjoy reading your articles very much. But today after reading the above information about nuts improving type 2 Diabetes, it is mentioned that raw cashews and peanuts are good in place of the carbs. Than in the picture it shows assorted nuts. Should we eat just the raw cashews and peanuts, or any raw nuts?
Thank you,
Mrs. Martinez
Cashews are nuts. Peanuts are NOT nuts. They are carbohydrates like any other. They are only called nuts.
You recommend raw nuts. You cannot eat raw cashews, you will die of cyanide poisoning. also raw peanuts are not very appetizing, they need to be either roasted or boiled depending on where you come from.
