You’ll either love this or hate this.
In fact, we’d never received as many negative comments below our articles as we did when we first revealed the benefits of this food choice.
That doesn’t change the fact that this food choice has now been proven to lower LDL cholesterol by a whopping 29 points. That’s something to love.
The research, published in the journal Nutrition Reviews, analyzed already published studies on the cholesterol effects of vegetarian and vegan diets.
From the literature, they identified 30 observational studies and 19 clinical trials that met their strict quality criteria.
From these 49 studies, the authors concluded that a vegetarian diet could lower overall cholesterol by 29.2 mg/dL and LDL (bad) cholesterol by 22.9 mg/dL.
The omnivorous (meat eating) diets in the studies included low fat, calorie-restricted, and overall what we would consider a healthy diet. This shows that a vegetarian diet has more cholesterol lowering benefits than healthy omnivorous diets.
Vegan diets were found to be even more effective than vegetarian diets, cutting cholesterol by even larger margins.
