…this powerful beverage shoos away heart attack and stroke!

Yes, a new study reveals a shocking 40% reduction in artery plaque build-up from drinking this common beverage daily.

If you’re a coffee addict like me and want something to retaliate with when people frown at your fourth cup of coffee, here’s good news. Apparently, drinking 3 to 4 cups coffee a day helps your heart stay healthy while keeping you busy and active all day.

There was a time when coffee was thought to be bad for the heart, though many studies have proven that it is actually beneficial and can even help lower the risk of type-2 diabetes.

In a research study based at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital in South Korea, 25,138 men and women underwent routine examination, including a test to measure levels of Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC), a hard deposit that is known to block arteries and induce heart attack. CAC levels are useful for determining the risk of cardiovascular problems that are otherwise difficult to diagnose.

The CAC levels of the people were compared with their coffee consumption. About 13.4% of all participants had detectable CAC levels and, on average, coffee consumption was recorded at 1.8 cups a day.

It was found that those who drank 3 to 5 cups of coffee per day had 40% less CAC than those who didn’t drink coffee. Those who drank 1 to 3 cups a day had 35% less CAC, and those who drank just 1 cup a day had 23% less CAC than the non-drinkers.

In another study, it was found that drinking coffee reduces the risk of developing ischemic stroke, as well as hemorrhagic stroke. A regular coffee drinker achieved about a 36% reduced risk of developing hemorrhages and consequently stroke. About 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day was found to lower the risk of death from stroke by 23%. Push this up to 5 to 6 cups of coffee a day, and you get a 36% risk reduction!

Want more proof? A previous Greek study also affirms the bonuses of drinking this energetic brew: of the 485 people aged 65 to 100, it was found that those who drink at least 1 to 2 cups of coffee a day had the healthiest arteries. Upping consumption to 2, 3, or more cups provide additional benefits like a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease, liver cancer, skin cancer, and ovarian cancer. However, high coffee consumption also leads to dehydration, so make sure you drink enough water with your coffee.

It’s the antioxidants in coffee that are responsible for its good effects, and even though the study did not show the differences between caffeinated and decaf coffee, it can be assumed that caffeine is definitely not responsible for the benefits.

While it may not be easy or advisable to start glugging many cups of coffee a day, there is definitely no reason to stop drinking it if you already love the beverage.

Coffee might be great for the heart, but it’s surely not enough.
