This is how you beat type 2 diabetes. With these 3 game-changing herbs, you’ll be on track to ridding yourself of the debilitating effects of type 2 diabetes. You know the kind.
Just stock up on these herbs and you’ll be set. But wait. What are these herbs exactly?
1. Ginko Biloba
Finally, recent scientific studies back up what the Chinese have known for thousands of years: Ginko Biloba herb is an excellent remedy to beat type 2 diabetes!
A study conducted by researchers from Texas University revealed that Ginko Biloba extracts significantly lowered fasting blood sugar levels in lab animals.
Ginko extract helps lower blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to increase insulin production.
Researchers explain that another anti-diabetic action of Ginko Biloba lies in its powerful antioxidants, called flavonoids.
These compounds have the ability to neutralize the damage of free radicals preventing the development of type 2 diabetes.
Another study published in the journal Diabetes Spectrum states that Ginko extracts have the ability to inhibit plaque formation to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in diabetes patients.
Researchers also found that this magical herb helps manage other complications related to type 2 diabetes.
According to the study published in the journal Acta Pharmacologica Sinica, the extract of Ginko Biloba triggers the release of chemicals that prevent diabetic neuropathy and nerve damage.
Ginko Biloba is a very popular herbal remedy all over the world. It is also used to increase blood flow to the brain, improving the memory and preventing early brain decline.
2. Holy Basil or “Tulsi”
This very well-known aromatic herb, often used in Italian kitchens, has been the leading type 2 diabetes treatment in Indian Arjuvedic medicine since the ancient times.
Recent scientific research finally uncovers the powerful anti-diabetic effects of basil.
In a small, controlled trial group, researchers looked at 40 diabetes patients.
Study participants were asked to stop taking their diabetes medication one week before the trial.
All patients were given dried basil leaves for a run-in period of 5 days. Then, half of the study participants were randomly instructed to consume 2.5 grams of powdered basil leaf, while the other half were given a placebo for a period of 30 days.
After, they were crossed over to the other treatment group, without a washout period, for another 4 weeks.
The results revealed that in the first group the average fasting glucose was reduced from 134.5 mg/dl to 99.7 mg/dl after 30 days of holy basil treatment.
However, after being crossed over to placebo, the average fasting glucose spiked up to 115,6 mg/dl and kept increasing.
Researchers report that overall, mean fasting glucose dropped by 21 mg/dl in the holy basil group.
There is no typical dosage for consuming holy basil to improve type 2 diabetes, but human studies suggest that 2.5 grams of dried basil leaf used once a day on an empty stomach is sufficient for anti-diabetic effects.
You can use this herb as a tea, or as a spice in a variety of dishes, especially tomato based, or just toss few leaves in a salad bowl.
My favorite way to enjoy basil is to grow it on my kitchen window, making it easy to consume it as often as I wish.
But you can also get it in the form of a supplement in most health food stores all over the world.
3. Fenugreek
This aromatic plant often used in Indian kitchens has been a popular anti-diabetic treatment in Chinese and Indian traditional medicine for a number of decades.
Multiple clinical trials have been carried out to look into the potential anti-diabetic powers of Fenugreek.
Several of these human studies have undeniably proven that fenugreek seeds have the ability to improve metabolic symptoms in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes by improving glucose tolerance and reducing glucose levels.
In a study conducted by Indian researchers, evidence revealed that a daily consumption of 100 grams of fenugreek seed powder significantly reduced the fasting blood glucose levels in patients with type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent). Not to mention that their blood glucose tolerance was also drastically improved along with lowered total cholesterol levels.
Another controlled trial showed that adding 15 grams of powdered fenugreek powder into the meal eaten by type 2 diabetes patients reduces the post meal-glucose spikes.
This amazing plant is also loaded with minerals, vitamins and antioxidants.
If that wasn’t enough, fenugreek is also effectively used to treat arthritis, high cholesterol, hair loss, constipation, erectile dysfunction, kidney disorders, skin rashes, bronchitis and other cold-related conditions.
Fenugreek leaves and seeds can be found in most Asian food stores near you.
It can also be purchased in the form of a supplement in most health food stores or online health stores.
i need ginko biloba
You can get many good herbs as supplements including these three. I however like to rather use herbs in my food. That means you have to either cook yourself or go to a good restaurant. Darn!!!
I think tomatoes are also good for T2D – so why not make tomato mozzarella salad and load basil on top?
I am already taking Methi seeds
Rx's should be a last choice for ANY ailment!
Very effective herbs but gingko extract bshould only be taken
Your statement is incomplete and there's no way to read after "should only be taken…". I am interested in knowing, kindly advise. Thanks.
Re Fenugreek Are you sure the dosage was 100 grams per day? That’s almost 1/4 pound or the amount in a typical complete bottle of Fenugreek of 100 1000mg capsules.
Thanks for this very interesting article.
Holy basil ( Tulsi ) is not what Italians typically cook with, they primarily use sweet basil a Mediterranean herb. Holy basil is more of an Indian ( Tulsi) / Asian herb in Thailand it is called Bai Gkaprow. Also it is more closely related to mint than sweet basil.
Great article.
I think there is something wrong with the 100 gms per day dosage.
