Old habits- especially those that have taken decades to become dangerously established- can be the hardest to break, but new research suggests one more reason to be willing to teach your old dog some new tricks.
The best and most effective way to prevent stroke, heart failure and death following a heart attack isn’t an expensive and side effect-riddled regimen of pills, according to the study.
It’s all about overcoming one simple habit!
In a new US study on diet looking at over 4,000 people that was recently released, researchers proved yet again that the most effective way to eliminate the risk of a second heart attack, stroke, or heart failure after a first episode isn’t to load up on drugs.
According to the research, the study participants who were able to change their eating habits by eliminating fried junk and processed food in favor of fresh vegetables and healthier choices were the most likely to not only survive longer following a heart attack, but to eliminate their risk of a second one.
The sugar, salt and fat in most Western diets can be truly addicting, and eliminating these deathly foods from the diet can be a real battle- even as difficult as an alcohol or nicotine addiction.
The research showed, though, that for people who were able to make the tough choices regarding lifestyle were the ones who avoided future heart-related episodes and lived longer.

I agree completely that we should eat a healthy diet, reduce fried foods with added sodium chloride, MSG & all of the other nasties, BUT…….that is easier said than done by so many in a world where convenience food is the only way they know to eat.
Just recently I had the opportunity to talk with a bunch of young men & women about healthy cooking & eating, It was as though I were speaking to then in a foreign language.
What is cooking said one young bloke & two of the girls (Young Women) laughed at having to stand at in a kitchen & actually prepare a meal of wholesome food.
It is no wonder that so many young people are staying at home well after the time they should be standing on their own two feet and making a good life for themselves when their parents do not give that essential schooling in domestic duties.
It is a sad indictment of how the world is evolving & I dread to think what is in store for future generations if they don’t wake up soon……?
this is worth the read!!!
I do not believe in remaining sad. I have made those wonderful changes, cholesterol is low, C reactive protein is low (high is evidence of much infllamation), and drs still come up with several more severe health problems with meds which give me very high dangerous results, think these last 2 meds will be my killers; I quit taking. I expect death after a heart attack, and wish death after a stroke. I do not want to be here bedridden,to die a slow death with bed sores, neglect, and no one feeding me at hungry times. Not counting the many abuses I saw after heart attacks and strokes. Being real, here, not scared, nor saddened. I have given it my best shot, and still working on new changes, and new health awareness clues, many, from Blue Heron, and will keep on truckin, for a time, hopefully for more time and more improvements. Gotta go and prepare an improved meal, and delish one too. just georgia, here
