A high waist circumference causes more problems than just feeling sluggish.
The cascade of negative health consequences continues to grow, with new entries on the list of problems recently being added.
Just how much of an increase in risk for things like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and erectile problems a larger waist causes will amaze you- and it doesn’t even have to be much of an increase in the size of your waist.
Men who have a waist circumference of more than 40 inches have been shown to have an ever-increasing group diseases that studies show don’t happen to their slimmer counterparts, regardless of age.
Now, new research has shown that urinary and erectile problems join the list as well, primarily due to metabolic syndrome issues caused by being overweight.
A study out of Cornell University looked at data for more than 400 men over 2 ½ years and found disturbing, albeit predictable results.
Men with the highest waist circumferences showed an increased risk of elevated PSA levels of 111%. This wasn’t even as disturbing as the high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease numbers.
The increases for those diseases for the large-waist group were:
High blood pressure: 130% higher
Type 2 diabetes: 180% higher
Heart disease: 250% higher
Men with a high waist circumference were also much more likely to suffer erectile problems (132% higher likelihood) and ejaculation issues (202% higher risk).
The evidence continues to pile up, especially in the wake of startling numbers looking at how pervasive a problem obesity is- nearly 1 in 3 adult males is overweight or obese.

my waste is now 36″ and weigh 152 lbs,so im better in my waste line than before
i did put so much weight after delivery of my baby and my abdomen felt hardened that sleeping on my belly was always uncomfortable. think also my waistline surpassed the normal size after delivery but iv lost a considerable amount of weight ever since i started using bp medications.which is the normal size waistline circumference for a woman and does loosing the inches help in reversing the bp?
Good. Very informative.
Catherine…some blood pressure pills are just diuretics and have the same function as drinking two litres of water a day……they will reduce the volume of your blood…so you might well have lost a lot of water(in the form of weight)……losing weight will help with your blood pressure but you would get the same benefit but plus…if you drank 2 litres of water a day.
