In a small study published recently in the Journal of Hypertension, a rare event happened where every single one of the participants were able to normalize their blood pressure- without drugs- using nothing but a common fruit extract.
What is more amazing is the extract used and where it comes from. It’s a fruit so common in the summer it’s almost a crime not to eat it at picnics, at least in the US…
[adrotate group=”5″] It is typical to have at least one or two participants in a study this size to not show the results the others do, so when all 9 participants showed the same result, researchers were happily amazed.
They took a group of men and women who had elevated blood pressure and gave them an extract from watermelon, called L-citrulline, in the amount of 6 grams every day for 6 weeks.
The extract has an effect called improved aortic hemodynamics, and all 9 participants showed evidence of this at the conclusion of the study, lowering their blood pressure to normal without making any other changes in lifestyle or diet.
Watermelon is an inexpensive summer fruit that is widely available all across the US at all seasons.
Indeed I used to take/crunch/bite at least 2lbs of W melon (the red portion & the white portion of it) every evening of my 4 yr. stay in Abu Dhabi ;I was a very busy manager there working under pressure but I never felt any strains or hi pressure until I left home in Beirut and my diet changed automatically and forgot about W melon. Now I resumed my WM diet again and I really miss it.
Watermelon Spoke in Mandarin= Wode Mei Ren. Good for everyone.
We love eating watermelon during summer, it's plenty her in the Philippines. My family has no health problem of any sort because we are eating the right kind of food- the Master's diet found in the Bible.
eating watermelon for about six weeks, will this really cure high blood pressure permanently?
watermelon is common food consuming in rural areas and they have less blood pressure.
use Arginine plus which contains l-citruline from http://herbs4you.mynsp.com.
……what have you got to lose?
Yeas watermelon is a widely used home remedy treatment in rurAL India for BP,Urinary problems etc. Most of the diseases caused by the fire element and loss of water is taken care . Even pumpkin has the same kind of curing effects.
This is strange. Last year, professionals decided it was good to eat watermelon if you were diabetic too, where before, it was forbidden to diabetics. I am assuming this L-citruline extract can be had in capsule form.
I might try it as long as my sugars are OK with it. I do like watermelon fresh, too. georgia
My first experience with water melon was not very pleasant. I had taken large piece of it on a very hot afternoon to cool off and I cherished every bite of it. Thereafter, I started to urinate so much that I became frightened.By evening I was quite light and happy with my self. I could not explain why. A friend told me her experience and off offhandedly said to the effect that she think it is anti-hypertensive because of its diuretic effect.I believed her because when I checked my blood pressure that evening it was surprisingly much better than I had it for many weeks. I am now addicted to water melon, and I am grateful it is one of the few affordable commodities in my country.
tTell me about watermelon acting like viagra. Is it true?
Do you really think a study is definitive that has only nine participants? Does that really rate a bulletin entitled “Everyone’s blood cured”? My suspicion is a subsequent study with nine subjects could easily find that nobody’s blood pressure “cured.” And, what does cured mean that after taking the supplement for the duration and then discontinuing its use, the blook pressure of the nine people remained normal? Or, did they have to continue taking the supplement in order to keep the blook pressure in the normal range? You don’t say.
All I know is you send out a continuous stream of bulletins about quoting these ways to reduce your blood pressure, citing small, obscure studies of the kind mentioned here, and come up with suggestions for reducing a person’s blook pressure. Let’s see if I can recall some: drink beet juice, use a rice bran oil/sesame oil combination in your cooking, take vitamin C, drink your smoothie concoction, eat blueberries, eat nuts, sleep more, etc., etc., etc. I’ve followed many of these suggestions and guess what? My blook pressure has not changed in two years.
Also, how do these studies measure blook pressure anyway? Typically, I measure my blook pressure by taking two, or perhaps three, readings spaced a few minutes apart. The first reading is always the highest, sometimes differing from the subsequent readings by more than 10 mm HG, especially the systolic pressure. So, if my pressure can vary so greatly within minutes, and defintely is different at different times of the day, how can a study claim something like the average reduction in blood pressure for the participants is 4 mm HG, when the variation in measurments is way more than that?
I love wate melon too but you can only find it in the shops during summer time in our country and I grow them in my field during our raining season but they are not available throughout all the seasons. I have noticed their benefit to high blood pleasure too
will watermelnon cure high blood pressure?
I have heard this before but I do not happen to like watermelon!
I agree – it is not a favorite of mine
Watermelon is a truly amazing fruit! And research has just hit the iceberg’s tip!
GUYS! I’ve read studies that prove watermelon has very simlilar properties to Viagra when consumed regularly.
I’ll get the extract and get my numbers down too ;)!
I drank 12 oz of watermelon juice for over 3 months it did not lower my blood pressure, sad to say
I could eat watermelon every day of the year. But it can cause a little, shall we say, "looseness" in the john. Take the extract, eat the actual watermelon sparingly.
Actually, any type of melon, if it is organic, can have positive effects on blood pressure. My favorite is cantaloupe, but there are a dozen varieties out there that are delicious and healthful. Remember to buy organic – it retains more of the natural benefits than mass produced commercial stuff.
i was reading about watermelon will that it will help with ED

i think ill try watermelon for my blood pressure,im having a problem with it.i take hytrin, norvasc, labetalol and have bad side effects. i hope this works!i have swelling of feet and ankles from medicine!
It’s not suprising that some people report L -Citrolline helps BP and ED because it actually turns into L-Arginine in the body more effectively than taking LArginine.
Arginine in the bloodstream relaxes blood vessels (by up to 8% i have read) and hense is good for both these conditions.
Arginine also produces Nitic Oxide which is a main ingredient to erections which dwindles with time so taking a boost will obviously help. Pychnoginal is another substance that has similar effects.
Which part of water melon is L-Citrulline gotten from or more available? Is it from the seed, the red portion or the green outer layer? I need to know. Thank you
I have been using watermelon for the past 4-5 years.I have felt its diuretic effect but not checked my b.p.thereafter.Now i would like to know whether a diabetic can have watermelon.

What is the difference between water melon and sweet melon nutrition wise.
Both are sweet in taste will it not raise blood sugar for diabetics? Also which part of water melon good for B.P. Is it the seeds or the red portion?
With or without seed?
Red or yellow?
I absolutely loathe watermelon. Eat watermelon or die prematurely? Hmmm.. Tough call.
BECAUSE OF MY BOWEL IS DIFFERENT THEN YOURS , I WILL BE SURE TO EAT MORE OF THE WATERMELON. THANKS
In response to Francisco, I have read that the highest concentration of l-citrulline is in the white part near the rind, which I find interesting because I almost never eat that part because it is not sweet like the inner flesh of the melon. The red/yellow flesh also contains l-citrulline, just not as high a level as the part between the colored part and the rind. My grandmother used to make watermelon rind pickles using the white part, they were very good as I remember, sweet. I just don’t know if the pickling process changes the l-citrulline content.
Do health shops sell the extract, and what is it called?
I can’t believe all the negative clamoring. Buy the capsules on Amazon or Vitacost. Don’t eat watermelon if you don’t like it. Anyone ever try the capsules?
Whatever the implications of its uses for different health conditions of different people, one thing is clear in its use during its harvesting time that is peak summer time ( with reference to India and its surrounding areas) the nutritional value for the common people particularly in rural India, is amazing and very accomplished. It’s use ( if not desirably applied usage ) helps to feel cool, fulfilled for long time, keep you hydrated, you feel fresh and energized in hot summer with cool temperature inside. If it is very soothing and very very essential for healthy people as per seasonal usage, it is also very very useful for with certain health problems provided it is taken with full care and with awareness of regular seasonal other diets, exercises and stress free life style to make every moment of the life with well adjusted daily regimen and seasonal regimen to remain in a well balanced constitution (or sama -prakriti) in Nature’s nature……….
Yes watermelon is a very good fruit. In my country Tanzania is known as TIKITI MAJI
