If you’re diagnosed with high blood pressure, chances are high your doctor wants you to take a popular kind of blood pressure medication.
But what if these exact medications that are supposed to save you, could cause even more serious conditions than high blood pressure?
Breaking news out of Great Britain and released by Cambridge University helps to explain the alarming connection between a certain class of prescription blood pressure medications and kidney failure – causing death in a big percentage of those who suffer it.
Which blood pressure medications are in the study?
Recent research out of Cambridge University has given many who take a popular class of blood pressure medication pause for concern- and for very good reason.
A class of blood pressure medication known as ACE inhibitors, used widely all over the world, was studied in the landmark research.
Data that was compared included rates of hospital admission specifically for renal (kidney) failure and use of the popular drugs, taken by more than 5 million people worldwide.
A startling, but obvious, trend emerged. More than 58% of the patients admitted with renal failure were also taking an ACE inhibitor.
While there are a number of factors that can contribute to renal failure, such as diabetes, the connection was overwhelming after researchers adjusted for conditions such as those.
What was more alarming was that for people whose renal failure ended in death, researchers found that ACE inhibitor-takers were at 30% increased risk of dying compared to those who didn’t take the drugs.
While doctors caution patients to not suddenly stop taking the medication, they do acknowledge that patients could wean off it safely if better alternatives are available.
My wife and I are taking Micardis, is it ACE inhibitor?
new things coming every day. lets leave it all to GOD.
I take Valsartan HCT. Is this ACE?
Which kind/class of anti-hypertensive drugs are safe?
I take Ramipril. Is this ACE?
I am on several types of blood pressure pills could you mention some of the BP pills?
Could you tell me the tyoes of Bp pills that can cause this problem. I have been on them for about 4 years
The type of blood pressure drugs this article talks about are “ACE inhibitors” – You should ask your doctor about the details of your medications if you’re not sure.
Ramipril is ACE
Valsartan HCT is is not ACE inhibitor
Micardis, is not ACE inhibitor
New research is coming out all the time on the side effects of various blood pressure medications. In my opinion, non of them are safe. I rather recommend changing your diet and lifestyle or working programs like The 3 Blood Pressure Exercises.
I used to take Hydrochlorothyozide and my new Doctor changed the medication to Losartan/Hctz, a pressure and water pill combined
Is this pill an inhibitor and can cause Kidney problems for me. I just want to be careful, I’m also diabetic: the medications that I’m taking are: Janumet and Glimepiride just once a day each. Anybody taken any of theses pills please let me know bacause I don’t want to have to take a med that’s treating one and causing another side affect for me.
I don’t want to take any chances and I sure don’t want to die now; I’m not at all ready for Death. I don’t trust the FDA, nothing is safe theses days, sometimes I just want to go HERBS.
I have been on 10mg of Ramapril for 4 years and I recently had kidney function tests privately, and my left handkidney function is down to 63 and Right hand kidney at 82.
I have been told a normal adult reading for kidney function is between 110-130.Any reading of 60 and below is said to be inadequate kidney function.
I am 54 yrs old.
I am not being treated for any kidney problem and I do not have any illness that can affect kidney function.
From reading this report, I think I should ask my doctor why he is not dealing with this.
Does anyone else have these kidney readings?
My husband actually have high blood pressure, the Dr prescribe him a medication to normalise his condition, but he complain of headache.
He is so sceptic to medications and treatments, so the only thing left is change his eating habits, then I start to reduce salt , on foods, and also no more sauces like Ketchup or Mustard. He have a walk every night for 45 minutes then when come home sleep well, his blood pressure is normal now, without any medication.
I believe stress is the most important factor that produce such condition. Thanks for the opportunity of make a comment.
God wont save u

Ihave been on several different kinds of blood pressure medications for years, I have had renal failure of both kidneys, which ultimately led to transplant of right kidney. I lost the left kidney do to cancer developing, have the study shown any cancer related causes do to taking these medication and I would like to know the names of the medications!!!
If there is a law suite for this problem, please contact me!!!
I agree with you,Anthony, let's leave it to God.In the Western world, with these medications, life expectancy has been rising quite rapidly,so something's helping !
We are all different ,of course, but I 've been on a beta blocker,a calcium channel blocker and ,I think,an ace inhibitor and my kidneys have remained stable for that time.
And that's about seven years now. That's just me though. If you have unpleasant side effects go back to your doctor.
Susan,63 and 82 aren't bad figures. You a can manage on a half of one kidney..My kidney function Went down to 33 due to another quite toxic drug I had to take and ,in actual fact,my kidney function has improved coming off the toxic drug and going onto these drugs.Anyway, that's my story.I'd be delighted if my kidneys were as good as yours.Nothing's perfect.
I am classed as having chronic kidney failure, but manage fine.
I am not surprised at this study at all.. I have been on a beta blocker for two years and am getting off this stuff.. I have been weaning off of it and let me tell you the side effects have not been fun at all…. been doing it very slowly for 8 months now and I have replaced this stuff with natural vitamins, supplements and herbs and they work way better than drugs.. there are literally hundreds of natural remedies out there ..
I still didn't see which b/p meds were ace inhibitors…
