A new testing device for blood pressure is being touted as possibly the best way to identify atrial fibrillation, which experts say is critical in preventing stroke in affected populations.
Finding stroke risk caused by atrial fibrillation just by taking blood pressure, how is that possible?
Doctors in the UK are being urged to consider using a new blood pressure testing device in order to identify if their patients are also suffering from atrial fibrillation but don’t know about it.
Having atrial fibrillation (AF) puts a person at 4 times the risk of having a deadly stroke than not having AF.
Pulse checks at the doctor’s office won’t always detect it, but the makers of the Watch BP Home device say that it can and does find AF, even though the device is used primarily for monitoring blood pressure.
This “opportunistic” discovery of AF is believed to be the key in preventing thousands of stroke deaths every year. The thinking is that when people who are suffering and don’t know it are identified, they and their doctors can work on treatment options that will help prevent stroke and possible death.
Get your blood pressure down…and keep it down, for good! Three easy blood pressure exercises in just minutes a day will do it for you…
Or get your cholesterol under control in days…
This is great news! A better device on the market is the CardioScope BP+ from Pulsecor that not only measures the brachial blood pressure in the upper arm as well as the rhythm of the heart to detect for AF or other cardiac arrhythmias but it also measures the central blood pressure, i.e. the blood pressure that the brain, heart, kidneys and eyes experience. And what is more the BP+ can provide an indication how stiff the arteries are which often precedes the development of pre-hypertension and hypertension. Plus the CardioScope BP+ can detect a persons vascular age versus their chronological age based on the measured parameters which can be used as a guide to help improve vascular health. All-in-all the CardioScope BP+ provides the ideal device for looking at and managing a persons vascular health in all ages and should be used in all Primary Care establishments for screening.
seriously? the doctor will identify and help you risk stroke? With their drugs that increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes?
And how young do you have to be in order for this to actually take effect for us.?
Where can one buy this CardioScope + from and how expensive is it? Thanks
The article is interesting, but it does not show what the device is. What good is it to know something is available, but then no information given to show how to get it?
I been taking Levodyn for one and a half month now, my blood pressure is still very high
This is good to know but what is the name of this new device and how is it used.

The CardioScope BP+ can measure blood pressure and detect for AF along with many other vascular parameters. Get screened and know your vascular age!!!
How is it that doctors, nurses take blood pressure at the most stressful moments on being examined. Then exclaim oh! you must see your doctor as your readings are so high. This has just happened to my wife who undertook breast cancer surgery yesterday, she had spent 4 weeks between screening and surgery worrying about the eventual outcome, and medical professionals expect to find that her BP has not been affected. A major problem here in UK is that the numbers used to define good BP has been downsized to below 140/90, and anything above this seems to create an immediate response, “control” usually with drugs. Just read about a study by the Cochrane Collaboration who found there is no proven reduction in death rates by treating people with a BP between 140/90 and 159/99.
Nice discovery but how can we buy it?…
