A report recently published in The Lancet (December, 2012) highlighted the global impact of arthritis and other musculo-skeletal conditions and the cumulative impact is devastating.

Even though the report also acknowledged that disability can be prevented using already-available treatments and preventions, the sheer size of the problem worldwide shows that not enough resources or attention are focused on getting control of it.

A recent report published in the Lancet has pulled the veil off the global impact of arthritis and other musculo-skeletal conditions, highlighting the myriad costs with which practically every nation and culture in the world is fighting.

The report looked at economic, mental, emotional, and mortality costs, among other markers.

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, back pain, and related bone and joint issues account for the greatest impact of disability-related claims worldwide, when looking at cost of workplace productivity and insurance claims.

The report also found that the greatest contributing conditions to the crisis are low back pain, neck pain and osteoarthritis.
