If there is one organ above any other that’s responsible for keeping you healthy and preventing diseases it’s the liver.
Unfortunately, most of us don’t treat the liver with the respect it deservers and therefore we end up obese, with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes (just to name a few of many conditions).
That’s why in today’s feature I’m article going to tell you about 10 powerful foods that clean the liver like nothing else. I’ve had many, many clients completely reverse the above conditions by just adding these liver-friendly foods into their diet.
First of all, things that intoxicate our livers and fill it up with fat are things like processed food, fried food, alcohol, sugar (specifically fructose and sucrose), any kind of pollution and stress.
Since we can’t avoid all these things, you should load up on the following foods as much as possible to counteract the toxins:
1) Apple a day… Here is the reason it keeps the doctor away. They’re loaded with pectin, which helps the body to release toxins and cleanse the digestive tract. This takes some of the work load from the liver so it doesn’t get overloaded with toxins.
2) Avocado is considered one of the healthiest super-foods you can eat. One of its magic powers is to help the body produce glutathione, which is essential for the liver to get rid of toxins.
3) Beets, it doesn’t matter which kind, contain high volumes of plant-flavonoids
as well as beta-carotene. These ingredients boost overall liver function. Studies have shown that drinking 250ml of beet juice immediately drops blood pressure several points.
4) Flaxseed and Olive oil are healthy fats that actually absorb harmful toxins throughout the body. This, again, relieves much of the work the liver has to perform.
5) Garlic is one of those super-herbs that is great for everything (except maybe dating). One of the things that garlic does (even in very small doses) is to activate enzymes in the liver that immediately flush out toxins. On top of that, garlic is also loaded with selenium and allicin. These two compounds are often thanked for lowering blood pressure but they also help clean out the liver. When you use garlic, it’s important to chop it or slice it in very small pieces. This releases these healthy compounds. You also want to eat it as raw as possible.
6) Grapefruit is one of the most powerful fruits you can eat. In fact, it’s so powerful that it can counteract several prescription drugs. So if you’re taking any kind of medications, don’t eat grapefruit till it’s cleared by your doctor. If you’re not taking medications, you’re in for a treat because as little as half a grapefruit can trigger the release of several liver enzymes that help flush out toxins from the liver.
7) Green Tea is one of the best known natural cleansing methods used. Among other things, green tea is loaded with antioxidants. But you don’t have to limit yourself to green tea. Almost all types of tea are beneficial for your health.
8) Any type of green vegetable is good for the liver. Some of the most powerful liver cleansers are spinach, arugula, chicory and mustard greens. They’re all loaded with chlorophylls, which vacuum any toxins from the blood stream.
9) Starch has sometimes gained a bad reputation. Natural starchy carbs such as squash, brown rice, potatoes and yams are, however, very healthy. Unlike sugars, they contain only glucose, which is pure energy that can be used by any cell in the body and does not require the liver for processing. Other sugars contain fructose, which can only be processed by the liver. Natural starch is also rich in vitamin B. This vitamin boosts metabolization, liver decongestion and overall liver function.
10) Turmeric is sometimes called “the liver’s favorite spice.” It’s extremely powerful in activating liver enzymes that rid the body of, among other things, carcinogens of all kinds. If you’re not a regular guest at Indian restaurants, you can also get Turmeric as supplement in your local health food store.
Boosting your liver health is extremely powerful to heal pretty much any disease under the sun. So here are some conditions you may be interested in tackling:

Great article……..thanks …..
do you need all of these or just one.
and artichokes 🙂
Not quite there, sorry. The Liver hates every sort of veg oil and so oil consuming should be restricted to cooking and dressing with little olive oil – while the best option is grass-fed dairy butter and ghee. Flaxseed oil is indigestible anyway.
Starch is no less a manace for the liver, as they are turned into sugar. For liver health, starchy foods best be avoided aas much as possible, especially potatoes.
What the liver needs the most is not even in your list: QUALITY fresh proteins!

I always love garlic and it didn’t realize it was so beneficial. I didn’t know it was a super herb. I won’t cook without lots of garlic in my food specially my meat. Garlic is known to give flavor to anything being cooked.
I understand now the reason my BP is always low eventhough I have the worst BP history running in my family. It’s all makes sense. That’s very interesting to know.
This article is great and informative. I’ll keep to the medical advice.
There are some major contradictions between the article and the comments by Yael Gal · who appears to be involved with some Chinese medicine. Is there someone who can clarify?

Scott Davis; this is a very helpful article; lots of great foods & lots of examples. I love it! Wish my printer worked. Bought 3 printers last year; all same brand-all quit working right! Wish I could print this one-my hands and fingers do not work right to do hand-written notes plus my handwriting is terrible due to shakes; but, I have written it down; if only I can read it. Will save this email.
Congratulations for a well written article! Keeps my attention, easy to read, and thought provoking. I needed some suggestions for great greens and other healthy veggies & fruits and juices! grateful georgia, today!
you’ve forgotten cabbage one of the most potent liver cleaners and re-generators.
And garlic is even good for dating, if you have the “same taste”. We eat about 2 pounds of garlic a month in my family, but we don’t have many friends and the teachers have banned our kids to the back of the class room 🙁
