Have you been diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes? Or is there cardiovascular disease in your family history? Then you may want to pay close attention to today’s article.
You see, a cardiovascular problem that causes dangerous, deadly blood clots called Peripheral Artery Disease, or PAD, has been shown to be caused by just a handful of preventable factors, according to a new research.
Research that was recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association highlighted the work of scientists who were trying to drill down to the root causes of Peripheral Artery Disease.
What they found was that for almost every case of PAD, they can most likely be attributed to the presence of the following preventable issues:
– High blood pressure
– Unhealthy Cholesterol
– Type 2 Diabetes
– Smoking
While the rate of PAD occurrence varies from factor to factor, smoking was by far the highest contributor to Peripheral Artery Disease, with a rick assessment of almost 95%; meaning if you smoke, you are almost guaranteed to suffer from some level of PAD.
While undoing the damage of the 4 causes of PAD above can be frustrating, it isn’t impossible. Often, correcting one problem solves some of the others. For instance, quitting the smoking addiction can frequently improve high blood pressure.

I would be interested in learning more abour PAD Disease and what the preventable measures are according to the scientific research that has been done. I do not have high cholesterol, nor Diabetes, nor am I overweight, nor do I snoke but I do have a problem with high blood pressure. And yes, I
do have your exercise program, which since I am a Type A personality, it is
difficult to spend an hour on this daily. Oh, and to the above I walk 4 kilos a day with my dog. And yes, I have a radically reduced sodium intake plus seven servings of veggies and fruit a day. Anything else I should be doing?
Maureen, you say you are a Type A personality, which means to my mind a high stress level so you will find your blood pressure will go down when you relax. Also stay away from low sodium levels. Research is showing low sodium intake can have serious consequences. Check it out.
Are you avoiding sugar [fructose]? Cut your fructose intake to just a few kilos a year. This is how much we evolved to eat. Eat fruit don’t drink fruit juices or sodas, including orange juice. Fruit is OK because the fibre is there.
Don’t expect veggies to supply high levels of nutrition. Agribusiness veg is often very deficient in minerals etc compared to even 50 years ago. Someone said it takes 26 apples to give the same nutrition as one apple did 50 years ago, but that’s probably an exaggeration. So grow your own if you can.
Eat a high protein breakfast: grass fed steak, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms. You will hardly feel hungry all day if you do. Don’t overeat at night, unless you go to bed 5 hours later. It takes 5 hours for your stomach contents to leave the stomach. Generally don’t eat so much wheat or corn products. They have been over processed and are valueless as nutrition. Etc.
