For the better part of 3 decades, scientists have believed that the relationship between two kinds of cholesterol in the blood can demonstrate likelihood for developing heart disease.
However, just looking at HDL and LDL cholesterol levels isn’t always a reliable indicator for whether or not someone will develop blockages, and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) that can lead to heart attack and stroke.
A new and highly advanced test seeks to drill down even further to look at why sometimes people still develop problems despite having a favorable HDL/LDL ratio.
A specialized test looking at HDL (good cholesterol) levels in the blood is aimed at identifying more than just the ratio of good to bad cholesterol.
The test, called the NMR LipoProfile(R) test, doesn’t just look at HDL levels compared to LDL (bad cholesterol). Rather, it looks specifically at the kinds of HDL particles.
It’s been seen for years that people with very good overall ratios of HDL to LDL numbers still wind up with heart disease that leads to heart attack. These patients seemed to defy the conventional theory that getting good cholesterol numbers up and bad numbers down was all that was needed.
However, there are a variety of different HDL particles, and the ratio within the HDL class is what seems to be the determining factor of ideal cholesterol health.
LipoScience, the company that developed the test, theorizes that knowing the specific HDL particle ratio will help doctors and patients to come up with a more specialized…and likely more effective…treatment plan for getting cholesterol under control to prevent heart disease and heart attack.
Whether this is true or just another way to get more money for more tests… well, time will be the judge.

exercises are alwais good.
its tough to know what teat you really need. its like Dr’S these days are car sales men convinced you need all the bells and whistles. ( all the tests)
i do think alot of testing is to make money.
how accurate are test results and are based on an individual or a standard
number.
i feel that there is very little patient care available and individual variations
are not taken into consideration.
Why do you always look at one aspect. Heart disease is caused by a diversity of problems, in cluding latent infections from childhood, diet, exercise etc.
Dr. Carey Reams discovered that plaque in the arteries was a result of excess salt in the blood. Part of the urine and saliva test he originated was a conductivity test of the urine. A salt reading of 7C was best. As the salt elevates to 20, 30, 40, 50 and even 60, the plaque builds in response to the salt damage. A salt of say 30 at an age of 30 is not as serious as at an age of 40, as the plaque building has been going on longer. Systematically drinking distilled water (4 oz each half hour for 10 hours a day) will lower the salt level and the body will disassemble the plaque in time. Dr. Reams proved it over and over with dozens of clients. I am living proof of 30+ years drinking distilled water systematically and doctors found ZERO plaque although I am 60 years old (carotid and coronary ultrasound results).
Late last year, one of my blood tests had this new test (or similar) applied to it and it was discovered that I had 7 x normal level of Lipo-protein (a) in my blood – this factor induced more coagulation of plaque and cholesterol particles and considerably increased the chances of occlusion (or blockages) in my blood stream.
I was told that this level of Lipo-protein (a) was genetic and there was no treatment for it. However, searching the net has turned up a serious recommendation from Dr Michael Lam, M.D., M.P.H. that 'a mega vitamin cocktail (of vitamin C, L-lysine and L-proline) therapy will increase blood concentrations of important substances and focuses on:
• Strengthen and heal blood vessels.
• Lower LP(a) blood levels.
• Inhibit the binding of LP(a) molecules in the walls of blood vessels.
The amount of the mega vitamin cocktail needed varies between individuals and depends on the individual's health condition. '
This may give hope to those with severely elevated Lipo-protein (a) levels… as it did to me.
To prevent heart disease I think the best way to do is to have exercise and observe proper diet. Avoid stress and depression. Prayer will help us overcome depression. God bless.
hello sir Joseph Ludvigson would you please tell me for how long do we have to take the 4 onz of distilled water 10 hours a day . For how many day?s
