Snoring can erode more than a marriage, suggests a study reported in the British journal, the Telegraph.
Researchers found that after adjusting for smoking, obesity, and other known cancer risk factors, that snoring puts people at almost 5 times greater risk of developing cancer.
Snoring and chronic obstructive sleep apnea are known to prevent oxygen from reaching all the areas in the body it is supposed to. To compensate, the body grows additional blood vessels to try and maximize oxygen supplies.
One theorized result of this is that tumors are provided with additional vessels which feed them, causing them to grow.
Researchers adjusted for other cancer risk factors and still found snoring and sleep apnea to be associated with a risk 4.8 times greater for developing cancer.
I no longer believe anything I read. Cancer is on the increase despite many measures to counter its spread, which suggests that the real reasons are being ignored. Snoring may be associated with cancer, but is the cause or merely evidence of another factor that causes snoring? A very real carcinogen is worry, and everything we read concerning health adds to the stress that is unarguably a very real cause of cancer.
My father was a chronic snorer, and his snoring was so loud it could be heard in adjoining bedrooms. Although a heavy smoker until the age of 45, he then gave it up and did not smoke again and was virtually the same weight throughout his life (12 stone) He never had cancer and died of heart failure at the age of 93. Presumably he was just fortunate?
It’s a matter of concern.Please suggest remedy.
QUE PASA CON COLOMBIA.
I am a female aged 64 who has snored all her life. I’m not a smoker but I had to have an operation one year ago to remove tongue cancer, after having had a painful neck for over a year. 2 Anti-snoring rings that are supposed to work by accupressure do not work on me. I have Christian Goodman’s Stop Snoring program but only toyed with it. Maybe this report will make me work at it seriously now!
Just being alive on this planet today is a risk, getting out of bed, eating, going to bed and sleeping, no matter which way you look at things we’re all doomed to extinction anyway. Just live life as if its your last day and don’t worry about all the rest, worry itself will kill you too.
Attention alll snorkers!
