Diabetes and prediabetes are considered to be the strongest risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD).
However, a new study published in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation reveals another critical risk factor. Unlike diabetes and prediabetes, this risk factor is not a disease; in fact, those who possess it may even be considered quite healthy.
Thankfully, you can naturally eliminate this risk factor within a few weeks at no cost.
The researchers from Koc University School of Medicine in Istanbul wondered whether only people with metabolic disorders like diabetes and prediabetes are at risk for CKD or whether elevated weight without these conditions can also increase risk.
They performed a review of the literature on the relationship between metabolically healthy obesity and CKD. They pored through three medical databases and found 16 studies with a total of 4,965 subjects.
They defined “metabolically unhealthy” individuals as those with at least three of the following: high blood sugar, high blood pressure, low HDL cholesterol, abdominal obesity, and high blood fat.
Compared with metabolically healthy normal-weight participants, they found an increased risk of CKD in two groups.
-
1. Metabolically healthy overweight people were 29% more likely to have CKD.
2. Metabolically healthy obese people were 47% more likely to have CKD.
This clearly shows that metabolic disorders like diabetes and prediabetes are not the only things that increase the likelihood of developing CKD; body weight is another critical factor.
This is yet another reason to lose excess weight. And doing so can be as easy as a breeze using the “third element of weight loss,” explained here…
