Those wondering what they should eat to lower their blood pressure may be surprised that the answer may be “nothing,” according to a research team from the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute. In a new study, they found that periodically fasting boosts overall heart health by reducing cholesterol and blood pressure.
In this study, a group of volunteers were assigned to fast for 24 consecutive hours. They found that the single-day fast was enough to significantly improve cardiovascular disease risk factors like hypertension, triglycerides and “bad” LDL cholesterol. The researchers add, however, that the long-term health effects of fasting have not been studied as of yet.
Here’s what else you can do to reduce your blood pressure naturally…

I completely agree with the results of the experiment as reported in this article. I realize that fasting is good for multiple health benefits including eliminating toxins from the body and giving rest to the digestive system as well. Moreover, it is said that fasting during new moon and full moon might be still better from the consideration of nervous system – this needs more experiment and scientific verification to prove or disprove the lunar tidal effects upon the human body resulting into what is called “LUNA-cy” !!!
It’s a great news to know that fasting consecutively for a couple of hours or for nearly a day reduces the major risk factors for a heart attack. But the problem is if am diabetic on isulin, how it is possible to do that. Will it not be rather a risk to expereince a low blood glucose level which may lead to death?
This advice seems ridiculous to me. I am diabetic, suffer from high blood pressure, take meds and CANNOT SKIP meals.
Please be more careful in divulging information to gullible people.
Thank you for constantly keeping me up-to-date on ways to keep my blood pressure down. I am currently off my meds and feel so much better. I had to change my diet and start exercising but it was well worth it. Now, I can add fasting since I didn’t want to do that since I was on blood pressure medication and lasics. You are very informative and it took me doing my own research and trial and error to get my health back. If, I would of listened to the specialized doctors I would be on dialysis. Healing our bodies is a process and it is ongoing everyday. You have to find out what works for you. What works for one person may do nothing for you. Please everyone take an active approach to your own health. It saved my life!
I think that this is a great article and extremely helpful .
one does need to be in tune with your body in order for this to work or to work closely with medical staff to monitor your results etc. , especially if your pancreas is no longer functioning or is sluggish…Key word here is functioning pancreas and knowing signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and treat it accordingly. If Dr Atkins was still around ,he was correcting many diseases that were long going, over weight people on the Atkins diet ,Dr Atkins found were cured of many diabetics (working pancreas) and cardiac pts as well as cholesterols lowered , and blood pressures went under control and not to forget weight reduction ,I was on his diet and lost 64 pounds ,bp decreased ,as did all the others mentioned and I felt like a new person.
