Have you ever dined with someone who eats their food like they are turning the face of a clock? Maybe you are that person.
A new study is showing that food-turners may be healthier than the people who make fun of them.
Seriously? Type 2 diabetes can be stopped simply by eating foods in a certain order?
Research recently published in the online journal Health Daily News has shown that people with type 2 diabetes could significantly control their blood sugar levels simply by adjusting the order in which they ate certain foods.
The study out of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City saw that eating protein and vegetables before carbohydrates lowered blood sugar and lead to more favorable insulin levels following mealtime.
Two times, 11 people were given a typical Western meal setup with a variety of vegetables, meat, and carbs. Their blood sugar level was taken before meal, and then three times (30, 60, and 120 minutes) after dining.
The first time the participants were asked to eat the carbs first, then the protein, and finally 15 minutes later the vegetables and fat.
A week later they got the same meal. The same blood sugar measurements were taken. But this time they were instructed to eat the protein, fat and vegetables first and then 15 minutes later finish off with the carbs.
Eating the carbs last reduced peoples blood sugar level 29% after 30 minutes and 37% after 60 minutes, compared to eating the carbs first. Even after 60 minutes their blood sugar level was 17% lower.
This can significantly affect the spike effects of eating carbs. So even if you suffer type 2 diabetes, you don’t have to deny yourself of all carbs, just add the potatoes, rice, fruits and even small amounts of sugar after you consume vegetables and protein first.
Even better is to completely reverse your type 2 diabetes and be able to eat most of the things you love, in whatever order you want. This is actually easier than you think.
