How about if one glass of cheap, common of juice could not just lower your blood pressure and remove plaque buildup, but also soften your already-hardened heart arteries?
It’s worth putting to the test, right?
Well, French researchers have tested this for you, with amazing results.
In a joint study out of France between the French National Institute for Agricultural Research and the Institute for Health and Medical Research, scientists followed participants for 6 months.
Researchers looked at the health of blood vessels, specifically the carotid artery of people who drank 340 ml of grapefruit juice per day. And the benefits were amazing.
Level of atherosclerosis, or the hardening of arteries, was measured before, during, and after the trials.
The participants spent a few weeks in grapefruit-drinking phase or control, followed by a 2-month cleanse where no one drank grapefruit. Then, the groups were switched.
What the researchers found was that carotid arteries for participants in the grapefruit-drinking phase were much softer and healthier compared to when they were not drinking grapefruit juice.
This is amazing since doctors often claim that once arteries start hardening, there is no turning back. The only way to avoid stroke and heart attack is to force blood pressure down using dangerous medications.
High blood pressure is the main cause of hardening of the arteries. Pounding the artery walls with such a power, forces your body to make the vessel walls thicker and harder to withstand the pressure.
Now that the arteries are less flexible, the already high blood pressure tends to rise even more, eventually leading to stroke or heart attack.
Using grapefruit juice, therefore, does half the work of improving your artery health. The other half involves lowering your blood pressure (grape juice helps with that as well).

People taking warfarin should not drink grapefruit juice, it is dangerous for them as it can increase the effect of the drug. It is irresponsible of you not to include that in your article.
Unfortunately, there are several dozens, if not hundreds, of medications which say “no grapefruit juice, not even canned. Many of them are specifically speaking about blood pressure treatments. So, wow! What a dilemma….
George E. Is correct, your not giving out all information could cause health problems. I need to know the do’s and don’ts or this juice, herb ect or it is not helping me with my health problems.
People who take cholesterol medications like Lipitor, Crestor etc are not suppose to drink grapefruit juice either. They are told that when they are put on the medication and the pharmacist advises of that as well. People need to be responsible for themselves as well. But maybe you should include that point in your article.
I agrre that you are highly irresponsible in not telling people about the mix of grapefruit and blood thinners such as warfarin. If you are out to help you are failing miserably.
I have been told by doctors that if you take blood pressure medicine that you should avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice for the same reason that George Ellerby stated. Is there any information that states that one can drink or eat grapefruit if one takes blood pressure medicine? Can one eat or drink grapefruit hours after taking blood pressure medicine?
I talked to my doctor as my doctor is well known for his holistic approach
He said it was fine to drink grapefruit as well as taking warrifin.
Now that is my doctor and its best to check with your doctor.
I’ve heard grapefruit juice will increase the medication’s effect tremendously to dangerous levels. Yes best to check, the pharmacist can tell you.
Nutritional Dr's are the ones to rely upon than medical Dr's Usually if you follow nutritional Dr's you will find your health being superb and doing away with medical Dr's , as long as you don't have chances to fall sick. Medical Dr's should be aproached when sick or health checkups.
The problem in combining grape fruit juice and taking warfarin is not in the grape fruit juice but in the fact grapefruit juice along with eating kale, broccoli, spinach and other high vitamin K vegetables or vitamins containing vitamin K will lower the INR reading to less than 2.0 to where the warfarin then becomes ineffective as a blood thinner. You can buy a home test unit on ebay for testing INR levels for about $750 to test your own INR levels at home so you know how to adjust how many mg/day of warfarin you need to take compared to what you are eating that will reduce warfarin’s effectiveness. It is important to maintain an INR reading of between 2.0 – 3.0 for the warfarin to effectively do it’s job. Readings above 3.0 set you up for bleeding to death both externally as well as internally. Readings lower than 2.0 can set you up for a stroke or heart attack. Less than 32% of the people on warfarin it is said are maintaining their INR at between the recommended 2.0 – 3.0 level. That’s not good. Ber
The idea is to get of the harmful drugs….If you are on this site, It is about lowering your blood pressure normally without drugs…..Doctors work for the pharmasuitical companies…. They don’t want you to quit taking the drugs that are killing you… If you are not willing to give up the medicine that is killing you with side effects…Don’t bother trying the natural ways…..
How many subjects were in the test group and the control group? Did the testers exclude from the experiment those who were taking diuretics and/or blood pressure medications?
i dont like grapefriuits or grape fruit drink.
It is very good guidance for all. If we follow the instructions correctly we can avoid huge amount being spent for medicine.
How about our medical doctorsreply to this question.
I love grapefruit juice but because I take the blood pressure medicine, Losartan Potassium, I avoid it. I haven’t asked my doctor, I’ve just been told by others that it somehow affects the medication. Does anyone know for sure?
I APPRECIATE WHEN THE REPORT IS PRINTED IN LIEU OF, OR, IN ADDITION TO A VIDEO. THE INTERNET AVAILABLE TO US IS SKETCHY AT BEST. AT LEAST I CAN READ THE REPORT BUT WITH THE VIDEO CHANCES ARE I WILL NEVER VIEW THE WHOLE THING.
Will try and thank you.
From what I’ve read so far, there’s a reason that grapefruit or its juice should not be consumed if you are taking certain bp medications: There are substances in grapefruit that interfere with the liver’r ability to break down bp meds. Rather than trying to explain, here are some culled info from http://www.livestrong.com/article/477181-does-drinking-grapefruit-juice-lower-blood-pressure/
“Blood Pressure Drugs
Combining blood pressure medication with grapefruit juice can lower your blood pressure too drastically because having grapefruit in your body stops your body’s CYP34A enzyme from being able to metabolize medication. This means that medications stay in your system longer than intended and, if you keep taking the medication, the drug will build up in your system. If blood pressure medications build up in your system, your blood pressure could drop to dangerously low levels. Your heart could stop beating.
Calcium Channel Blockers
If you take calcium channel blockers, a type of blood pressure medication, do not mix them with grapefruit. Channel blockers known to cause serious side effects when mixed with grapefruit include felodipine and nifedipine. Calcium channel blockers work by preventing calcium from getting into your blood vessels and heart. This lowers your blood pressure. If you take any type of blood pressure medication, ask your doctor if you can safely combine it with grapefruit juice.
I have three daughters, and during the Ist trimester of each pregnancy, I craved grapefruit, watermelon and cantaloupe with a squeeze of lemon on top. I craved boiled potatoes and mixed vegetables. I had an aversion to sweets, coffee, meats and dairy. My point? My bp was always on the low side. Now I know why. (Yes, my children were born as healthy as can be even if i was not eating the recommended diet for a pregnant woman)
I will add grapefruit to my arsenal of bp fighting natural remedies, which includes beetjuice, kale, carrots and spinach. All of these were recommended by blue heron at some point. Best of luck!
WHAT’S UP. CAN IT WORK OR NOT? IS IT GOOD FOR YOU ARE NOT?(grapefruit juice per day.)
Mmmm I can’t use citrus for the life of me acid relfux and ulcers trust me, not even worth a few sips without health problems in reaction. I SO MISS grapefruit juice fresh squeezed and organic please! I can’t stand blended juice though, way too much foam and ruins the consistency, it’s like swallowing flavored air bubbles!!!? I prefer to just toss it in a glass canning jar cup and throw it in the freezer for 20 minutes to chill or just toss in ice right after I make my juice. Craving juice!
these infomation is good and vital, since grape fruit reduce blood pressure, its better for one to use it regularly than all the medication that has many side effect, thanks.
