If you’ve been suffering from hemorrhoids for a while, you’ve probably heard about numerous factors that can make them worse and various ways to manage them.
But according to a new study in Eduhealth, there’s only one major cause why you get hemorrhoids.
And there is a simple, natural, free way to deal with this cause from home.
Even if the researchers were looking for a general idea of what causes hemorrhoids in the elderly, they began by researching the one group that gets hemorrhoids more frequently than any other… pregnant women.
They gathered data from 56 pregnant women, analyzing key risk factors, including:
-
• Pregnancy trimester
• Defecation position (sitting vs. squatting)
• History of previous pregnancies
• Presence of constipation
After analyzing the results, they discovered:
-
• Hemorrhoids were more common in women over 30, likely due to weakened blood vessels with age.
• Pregnancy trimester, bowel movement position, and past pregnancies had no significant impact.
• Constipation was the strongest predictor of hemorrhoids.
With constipation, straining during bowel movements increases pressure on the blood vessels around the anus, causing them to swell and bulge outward.
Less constipation = less straining, less pressure, and less damage.
To prevent constipation:
-
• Increase fiber intake—eat more fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains.
• Drink plenty of water to keep stool soft and easy to pass.
• Stay physically active—movement stimulates bowel regularity.
