You can do it right now, right where you sit with your eyes closed.
This is according to a new study in Acta Physiologica.
How?
High blood pressure is a massive health risk, and researchers have long known that stress raises blood pressure while exercise lowers it.
But until now, they haven’t fully understood why.
A team of scientists at Juntendo University in Japan may have uncovered the missing link.
They studied how the brain processes stress and how exercise regulates blood pressure.
Specifically, they examined the amygdala — the brain’s center for processing emotions.
They experimented on laboratory rats, exposing them to three weeks of chronic stress by placing them in confined spaces.
Some of these stressed rats were also given access to running wheels, allowing them to exercise voluntarily.
At the end of the study, they examined blood pressure levels and gene expression in the amygdala.
The results were eye-opening:
- 
• Stress Spikes Blood Pressure: Rats exposed to chronic stress had significantly higher blood pressure.
• Key Gene Discovered: These stressed rats showed reduced activity in a gene called STAT3, which helps regulate blood pressure. • Gene Suppression Raises Blood Pressure: When researchers blocked STAT3 expression, even non-stressed rats developed high blood pressure. • Exercise Reverses the Effect: Rats that exercised daily maintained normal blood pressure, even when exposed to stress. • Brain Rewiring: Daily exercise restored STAT3 levels, showing that the brain controls blood pressure in response to movement. 
In short, this study proves that regular exercise literally hacks your brain to lower blood pressure, even in stressful situations.
Now, this is no news to me.
