Strange heart health and Arthritis link discoveredAre you taking care of your heart?

If so, you might be unknowingly protecting your joints, too.

A new Lipids in Health and Disease study reveals this strange connection, which changes how we think about arthritis prevention entirely.

And the best part?

It all boils down to ONE simple score you can check right now.

The American Heart Association’s “Life’s Simple 7” (LS7) checklist is designed to track heart health through seven lifestyle factors:

• Managing blood pressure.
• Controlling cholesterol.
• Maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.
• Staying active.
• Eating a heart-healthy diet.
• Maintaining a healthy weight.
• Avoiding smoking.

Each metric is graded as poor (0 points), intermediate (1 point), or ideal (2 points), and the scores are summed for a total score ranging from 0 to 14, with higher scores indicating better cardiovascular health.

You can make a rough estimate yourself for your own score.

Researchers used data from over 16,000 adults in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to explore whether LS7 scores also influenced arthritis risk.

Participants’ scores were analyzed alongside their arthritis status while controlling for factors like age, gender, and income.

Here’s what they found:

Higher LS7 Scores = Lower Arthritis Risk: For every one-unit increase in LS7 score, arthritis risk dropped by 13%.

50% Lower Risk for Top Scorers: Participants with the highest LS7 scores were half as likely to develop arthritis as those with the lowest scores.

Body Fat Plays a Role: Lower body fat percentage mediated the relationship between LS7 scores and arthritis risk, suggesting that healthier habits prevent arthritis by reducing fat levels.

Most Predictive Factors: LS7 scores and body fat percentage were the most critical predictors of arthritis risk.

What does this mean for you?

By following the LS7 guidelines, you’re not only protecting your heart but also shielding your joints from arthritis.

The two most important factors are cholesterol and blood pressure.
