It’s rare for anyone to be in a good mood when suffering from Hemorrhoid pain.
But a new study in the Annals of General Psychiatry reveals that mood also causes Hemorrhoids.
And it’s not a bad mood as such that causes Hemorrhoids. It’s a little different kinda mood.
We all experience little mood swings from time to time.
Mood instability refers to rapid and unpredictable emotional changes. It’s common in mental health conditions like anxiety or bipolar disorder, but it can also be part of someone’s personality.
Researchers have long noticed a link between mood instability and stomach issues, but this study sought to uncover if one causes the other.
Using Mendelian randomization, scientists analyzed genetic data from large-scale databases like the UK Biobank and FinnGen, covering diverse populations and genders.
-
• Genetic Analysis: They identified genes linked to mood instability and checked for links to 28 gastrointestinal conditions.
• Controlled Adjustments: To ensure accuracy, they accounted for other mental health conditions like depression and anxiety.
The Surprising Findings
-
1. Strong Links: Mood instability increases the risk of several digestive issues, including hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, and liver cirrhosis.
2. Persistent Risk: After adjusting for mental health disorders, mood instability remained strongly linked to internal hemorrhoids, cirrhosis, and pancreatitis.
If you’re prone to hemorrhoids, managing your mood may be just as important as treating the physical symptoms. Mood swings can lead to poor habits like stress-eating junk food, which only worsens the problem.
This is no surprise to me. I teach my clients relaxation techniques as part of the solution. But that’s only a tiny part of the natural steps to eliminate hemorrhoids permanently. It’s simple, but it requires a few lifestyle changes explained here…
