The worst thing about Hypothyroidism isn´t what´s happening to your thyroid. It´s how lack of thyroid hormone affects the rest of your body.
A new study in Food & Function reveals how the body of people with hypothyroidism is breaking down cell by cell.
That´s why you might be tired.
That´s why you may gain weight.
That´s why you most likely feel like crap.
But it doesn´t have to be this way.
Because the study also uncovered a solution.
The solution is a common, cheap protein. You can get it everywhere. And it counters the most severe Hypothyroidism.
Free radicals cause cell damage all over your body. Your immune system fights free radicals. But it needs thyroid hormones to fuel this fight.
Without enough thyroid hormones, free radicals run wild, disrupting body functions everywhere.
Does whey protein help? The researchers recruited rats to test this.
They induced hypothyroidism in rats with a chemical called PTU (propylthiouracil).
Then, they divided them into groups and monitored for 30 days:
-
- a normal control group of healthy rats
- an induced control group with hypothyroidism but no treatment
- whey protein groups that received different doses (100, 300, and 500 mg per kg of body weight)
- an L-thyroxine group that received standard hypothyroidism medication.
After that, for 90 days, they only monitored the rats receiving whey protein.
The results were promising.
Rats receiving the highest dose of whey protein showed a big boost in antioxidant enzymes compared to the untreated group.
These rats also had lower levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a chemical that signals oxidative stress.
Although hypothyroidism still affected their thyroids, rats treated with whey protein showed milder degenerative changes.
The highest dose of whey protein was effective even with long-term use, with no harmful side effects.
Why does whey protein work so well?
The researchers point to its sulfur-containing amino acids and bioactive peptides—both known to help fight oxidative stress.
Whey protein is affordable and widely available. You can add it to smoothies, soups, or even baked goods.
If you’re dealing with hypothyroidism, adding whey protein to your diet might be the simplest way to avoid cellular damage – at least in the short run.
But whey protein is not going to heal your hypothyroidism.
I’ve helped countless people to heal their hypothyroidism holistically. You can do this from home. And everything you need is probably sitting in your kitchen.
