There is a reason why more and more people are developing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
And a new study published in Science of The Total Environment uncovered this reason.
But the study doesn’t stop with the cause.
It also reveals specific foods that counter this cause.
If you binge on these CKD-countering foods, your CKD improves. And these foods are hanging out in your kitchen already.
PFAS is a man-made chemical.
They’re found in anything from cookware to cleaning products.
PFAS exposure has been linked to a range of health issues, from cardiovascular problems to cancer and kidney disease.
But until now, scientists haven’t been sure why these chemicals harm our kidneys.
Researchers from the University of Southern California studied data from 78 people.
Here’s what the study found:
-
1. PFAS Exposure Linked to Kidney Decline: For each standard deviation increase in PFAS exposure, kidney function declined by 2.4%. This decline was measurable within just four years.
2. Gut Bacteria’s Role: Changes in gut bacteria and metabolites (substances produced by gut bacteria) explained up to 50% of the decline in kidney function linked to PFAS.
3. Reduction in Helpful Bacteria: High PFAS exposure was associated with lower levels of beneficial bacteria that produce anti-inflammatory substances, which help protect the kidneys.
4. Increase in Inflammatory Metabolites: Higher PFAS exposure was linked to increased levels of inflammatory metabolites, compounding kidney stress.
The results show that PFAS damages your kidneys directly. It also disrupts the gut microbiome, leading to an inflammatory environment that worsens kidneys long-term.
Focusing on gut health is your best option for protecting your kidneys because completely avoiding these chemicals is nearly impossible.
The key is eating gut-healthy food. You can start with things like sauerkraut and kimchi.
But there is so much more you can do to support your gut and kidneys.
I’ve been teaching this gut/kidney approach for decades. Thousands of readers have reversed their CKD using this approach.
Now, it’s finally scientifically proven.
