A team of researchers recently investigated the connection between caffeinated drinks and erectile dysfunction (ED).

They published their findings in PLOS ONE.

To draw the strongest conclusions, they focused on men at highest risk for ED: hypertensive, diabetic, overweight, or obese.

The researchers analyzed data from 3,724 men from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. And found a significant link between caffeine consumption and a reduced risk of ED.

Men who consumed 85-170 mg of caffeine daily were 42% less likely to suffer from ED. Those consuming 171-303 mg were 39% less likely to experience ED compared to non-drinkers.

These results were particularly significant for men who were overweight, obese, or hypertensive.

However, caffeine did not have the same protective effect in men with Type-2 Diabetes, as the effects of the disease on ED were too strong.

Note: more caffeine didn’t equate to better results.

To avoid potential health issues, limit caffeine intake to around 170 mg per day for optimal benefits.
