A study found that those who’ve never had a stroke are more likely to have normal levels of vitamin C than those who have had one or more strokes. Those in the latter group tend to have very low levels of vitamin C.

The study involved 65 individuals who had previously suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke and another 65 who had never suffered a stroke. Of the 130 people in total, about 45% had normal levels of vitamin C, and 45% had very low levels. Individuals with higher levels of vitamin C were likelier to have never experienced a stroke.

The researchers found that consuming the daily requirement of vitamin C reduces the risk of strokes, particularly hemorrhagic strokes.

Research published in the British Medical Journal in 1995 reported that women with higher amounts of vitamin C and flavonoids are 19% less likely to experience strokes.

The recommended daily amount of this vitamin is 90 mg for men and 75 mg for women.
