Sleep Apnea Caused by a Weird Body WeightFew people even think of the weight of water in our bodies.

We drink, we urinate, and we hope that our bodies regulate their water content properly all by themselves.

However, a new study in the Annals of the American Thoracic Society shows that some bodies retain more water than others and that they are at greater risk of sleep apnea.

A team led by researchers from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University analyzed information from two data sets.

First, they examined data from a gene association study of 331,315 people carried out by Neale Lab. The study identified 418 genes related to body water mass.

Second, they analyzed data from the FinnGen Study of 217,955 people, 16,794 of whom had sleep apnea.

When they put all the data together, they drew the following conclusions.

1. Sleep apnea risk increases by at least 35% in people with high body water mass.

2. In people with a genetic predisposition to high water retention, the sleep apnea risk was 41% higher.

3. When the researchers adjusted their results to rule out other sleep apnea risk factors, such as obesity, they still found a strong relationship between body water mass and sleep apnea.

Refraining from drinking liquids is obviously a terribly unhealthy way to deal with elevated water retention, so you might want to look at natural diuretics to help your body dump unnecessary fluid.

Here are some suggestions.

1. According to a 2009 study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, dandelion is an effective natural diuretic in humans.

2. Parsley has diuretic properties, according to a 2002 study in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology.

3. Caffeine, found in coffee and most teas, is a mild diuretic, according to a substantial amount of research.

4. Hibiscus and hibiscus tea have diuretic properties and are also high in antioxidants, according to a 2012 study in Planta Medica.

If you are surprised to have sleep apnea because you are not overweight, water retention might be the cause, and a natural diuretic might be the solution.

Fortunately, there is a simpler way to cure snoring and sleep apnea. All it takes is three minutes of the simple throat exercises explained here…
