Many potential causes of arthritis have been brought to light in recent years of extensive research.
In spite of that, the real cause of this autoimmune disorder has until now remained a somewhat unsolved mystery. Research from Harvard School of Public Health has, however, finally uncovered the real cause of Arthritis and the means to prevent and even reverse it.
New and exciting rheumatoid arthritis (RA) study findings were presented at the American College of Rheumatology annual meeting.
According to the study, women who daily consume one or more of sugary soda beverages significantly increase their risk of developing RA.
Many previous studies have linked sugary drinks to obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. This, however, is the first ever study that looks at how soda beverages affect RA development.
In a 10-year period, researchers collected dietary intake information from 173,000 women.
Every 4 years they were instructed to report how many sugary beverages they consumed. This included all kinds of sugary sodas and other sugary drinks with the exception of artificially sweetened beverages.
Throughout the study period, 883 women developed RA.
Researchers found that women who drank one or more sugary drinks a day had significantly higher risk to develop seropositive rheumatoid arthritis, compare to the study participants that consumed less than one sugared beverage a month (or none).
Seropositive arthritis is a more severe and invasive form of this autoimmune disorder.
The results of the study as well as the initiative are very plausible as once again it proves that RA as many other diseases can be prevented and reversed.
