For the last few years, a new trend in medications for men suffering ED has been spiking. Testosterone Therapy!
It’s supposed to be the “magical cure” for not just ED but also several other conditions and are even advertised to reverse aging.
But a study has revealed the dark side to this miracle therapy. Not only is the list of side effects longer than the phone book, one of them includes a 30% increase in risk of death.
The recent uptick in marketing of products to treat ED that are not related to ‘the little blue pill’ are increasingly targeting those who can’t take the pill, such as those who are on medications for high blood pressure.
The ‘fix,’ according to drug-makers, is to increase the body’s production of testosterone, which is a key factor (but not the only factor) in achieving an erection. Low testosterone levels are also blamed for lack of energy, loss of muscle mass, and many other symptoms of aging.
The problem is that as with any pharmaceutical, there are going to be side effects. Some are merely nuisance in nature- like the redness or itchiness that comes with the testosterone gels.
Others can be catastrophic, like those recently released in a study out of the University of Texas. Scientists there found that men who were using the prescription testosterone gels were at a 30% increased risk of dying from heart attack or stroke.
The researchers looked at over 9,000 men who had cardiac disease already, and also had been diagnosed as having low testosterone. They then compared two groups- those who were prescribed some sort of testosterone gel or injection, and those who were not taking anything.
What they found was that while there was a 20% chance of death associated with the heart disease of men overall, the men who were on testosterone therapy died at a much higher rate- 30% higher.
The study underscores the need for much more research to be done, and doctors are in a bad position with their patients. On the one hand, they are looking to prescribe a medication that addresses all the conditions that low testosterone causes, but on the other, the solution is worse than the original problem if it causes hospitalization or death.
The better solution is to boost testosterone naturally, with this program that you might think is only for women- the Natural Menopause Solution has an entire segment devoted to men and the phase of life called Andropause. Check it out here…
Did you know that ED is even more closely tied to stress and anxiety than testosterone levels- which are also subject to heart health? Get your blood pressure under control naturally, and watch ED disappear…
Hi, In 2000, 13 yrs ago, I was diagnosed with low testosterone and treated with Sustanon 250 fortnightly injections until the company stopped making it for a while and it was taken off the PBS medication list. I tried daily gels but didn’t like that. This year I have used 3 monthly injections of Reandron which seems to keep my levels up. Many years ago, a Dr prescribed Tagamet to heal a Deuodenal ulcer which it did but caused my breasts to enlarge and ED symptoms resulted, which I constantly try to correct. I have had no negative symptoms from the HRT treatment, oodles of energy and at age 71 leave many much younger men amazed at my energy levels and strength.
I have been doing the same thing but getting an injection every thursday and blood work once a month This past month my blood work came back with every thing all jacked up. So am needing to decide if to quit the injections or hopefully find an amount that will not mess up my bloodwork
