How many times have you experienced starting a great weight loss plan, losing a ton of weight in the first few days or weeks and then come to a dead stop.
I honestly believe that there are very few overweight people who don’t know how to lose weight. We are bombarded with solutions in so many different venues.
The real issue is that we reach a plateau on our journey to health and that’s when the struggle to stay on the path begins. How do we break down that plateau?
A slowdown in weight loss or, a plateau, is a normal part of the weight loss process. When we begin exercise activities or eat less (usually a combination of the two) our bodies go into a type of shock and our bodies use up more calories to adjust to the increase in activity and change in diet.
After a few weeks, however, our complex and amazing bodies adapt and become efficient in the new caloric and activity environment.
Instead of becoming depressed that progress has slowed, it’s important to keep your body guessing about what comes next. It is vital that routine and diet become varied, not only to “trick” the body but to keep yourself interested in the weight loss journey.
Here are some steps that can help keep the body guessing and the mind interested:
1. Take a look at what you are eating. You may be reducing calories each day but the body needs the right food to function. Be honest about what you are eating by journaling what you eat and looking at cutting out empty calories where you can.
2. If you typically run as part of your cardio routine, try adding in resistance to some of those workouts.
3. Change up the incline or speed when running.
4. Change the number of repetitions in weight lifting, rather than simply increasing the weight.
5. Know your body – you may need to decrease intensity on some days or take a day off altogether. Just be sure it is one day per week, rather several in a row, which can lend itself to stopping.
6. Replace your swim routine with a yoga class and vice-versa.
Following these six tips, you’ll experience new jolt of weight loss on a daily basis. But don’t stop there. Make a list of your own ideas on what you can do to changeup your diet and exercise program to make it a new experience every day.
One of the most powerful methods I’ve used to lose weight are the simple exercises in our Weight Loss Breeze program.
This is actually not a workout but a completely different method to lose weight than you’ve ever tried before. It requires no workout or diet change to help. But if you use it in addition with other methods, the effects are multiplied.
