In a comparative study out of the Institute of Public and Preventive Health at Georgia Health Sciences University, researchers looked at the two biggest culprits that are commonly known as being responsible for high blood pressure for the majority of sufferers.
Many people researching causes of high blood pressure have heard by now that stress and greasy, fried foods are going to be found in most studies, articles, self-help books, and guides as the major causes of high blood pressure.
But which one is the bigger problem?
According to the study funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, researchers actually found that they came out as equal in their devastating effects on blood pressure.
Fried food, even when prepared in so-called “healthier oils” still packs a sodium punch that far exceeds recommended limits. What researchers discovered, though, is that when a person is stressed, the body will hoard sodium; enough at the moment of acute stress to equal that in an order of French fries.
The inability to efficiently use and dispose of sodium in this way has the same impact on blood pressure, according to the study publishers, as the salty foods of the fried diet.
This easy, natural program eliminates high blood pressure in as little as one day…
Sodium….. we have heard ages ago fried food is high in sodium, is there any
one or the goverment has the authority to give warning or punish to whoever
prepares those food.
Sodium not the fat or the stress is the problem?

In my case it was job stress in being laid off and not finding employment that may have lead to my heart attack.
The body needs sodium in order to operate.
There alot of factors involved with high blood pressure. Not just stress or salt. A plant based diet solves many physical issues.
Second hand smoke ….made my blod pressure go thru the roof from tenants smoking every nite while I was sleeping! Which of course, suffocated me and woke me up gasping for oxygen!
Based on what I have researched and experienced, lifestyle is the biggest cause of high blood pressure. W
Working for the Probation Dept. under some real stupid Bureau Chiefs and several idiot Chief Probation Officers raised my BP. And I worked out everyday! I kept my weight at 170 lbs and I am 5'11''. I needed meds to make it through to retirement. It was never the criminals, the fights, riots, suicides, assaults on officers so much as it was having to deal with the morons at the top who often did not even have a clue on what was really going on and gave absolutely idiotic orders.
The question is; How much is too much sodium?
One usually hears 1 teaspoon is sufficient, however this may not be enough to stop cramping, in the legs etc.
It’s quite easy to limit one’s intake of sodium as long as you avoid processed foods, because you can keep count of the pinches added to your own cooking. Drinking sodas, and eating pre-prepared foods complicates the count.
There will be excess salt because of the current scare campaign against saturated fats. It’s the saturated fats that carry flavour so when they are eliminated manufacturers have to add salt and sugar to stop the resulting food being tasteless.
A double whammy!

Much high blood pressure is caused by unknown factors. The medical establishment calls this "essential hypertension." There are things that can be done to lower it, but to assert that there are "culprits" responsible for high blood pressure and to then rank two of these alleged "culprits" as worst is an oversimplification and is even worse that that. It is an erroneous way of representing the situation.
i have been diagnosed with parkinsons; are their any foods to eat that helps fight it or at least slow it down……….
One must also look at family history. I eat healthy, exercize, yet am a victim of narrow blood vessasl due to my heritage.
I guess the best course of action would be to eat foods fried at home in healthy oils where the sodium can be monitored and controlled.
I live in San Francisco all my life, even in the same neighborhood as in my childhood. Now I’m just turned 53, and the latest big irritation is the chinese male smoking addiction. Our district, and many others in the city, are now almost 90% Asian, predominantly Chinese, straight from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Their males of all ages stand on the street corners and smoke – early in the am, late at night, any time of the day. We live on the corner, keep windows open for air, and this smoke issue is no joke.
I wonder if anyone out there has an idea or opinion how we nonsmokers can have any rights at all against these “foreign devil” bedeviled addicts. There is an ordinance that one must stand 20 feet from a building, but how to go out and enforce this every fifteen minutes with men who “speak no English”? If an evil habit is reintroduced from abroad, after all our efforts in California to create a smoke-free environment, this is outrageous.
Mark…I agree with you…for some reason asians think smoking is fun and social…..They seem to be ignorant of the fact its detrimental to their health…..it seems prevalent here in new zealand too…One day the world will become void of smokers…it will all become smoke free…..now theres a nice thought.
