Have you ever wondered why reducing sodium intake is frequently ineffective for bringing down blood pressure (despite propaganda of the opposite)?
Scientists at the University of Houston in Texas have found a metabolic process that explains why simply putting down the salt shaker isn’t enough for most people.
The kidneys play a pivotal role in not only filtering out excess chemicals in the blood stream, but they also are responsible for much of the way the body metabolizes and uses sodium.
When receptors in the kidneys are damaged, the stability of the sodium balance in the body is affected. Limiting sodium in the body isn’t going to be helpful because the key problem isn’t having too much- it’s how the body handles what is available.
[adrotate group=”5″]What causes the problems with the receptors that are in charge of the sodium balance?
You guessed it- inflammation, and its evil twin, oxidation.
As the kidneys age, they become less able to fight the ravages of inflammation that are caused by environment, diet, and other diseases. Add oxidation to the mix with dangerous free radicals roaming unchecked and older kidneys just can’t keep up.
Taking sodium out of the diet doesn’t solve the problem of inflammation, nor does it offer antioxidant relief to reverse the damage and help the kidneys. The only way to derail that destructive train is to remove the inflammatory and oxidative triggers from the mix.

I believe my problem is not in my mind but my body.
Thank you for the information. Be blessed.
The sodium that a person uses at home from the salt shaker only acounts for 7% of a persons sodium. You need this salt because it has iodine and most people need idoine in their diet . The bad salt is what a person gets from processed foods and restaurants because they do not have iodine in it because salt is cheaper when brought without iodine. Therefore it is heathier to use your salt at home, but wise to limit the sodium you get from processed foods and don’t eat out to often. This comes from a health news letter I read several months ago while in a doctors office.
I have Hpertension my bolld keep jumping up and off. and I was tols by Dr. that my kidney function is low by 70%. what do I have to do to bring the percentage back to 100%. 763 377-2048

It is the ratio between sodium and potassium that in important in controlling your blood pressure. I believe it should be around 4 to 1 in favor of potassium.
