With the high success rate many natural methods deliver (most often much higher than traditional medications without any side effects) for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, arthritis and more, we at Blue Heron Health News repeatedly get the same questions:
If it’s so effective, why doesn’t my doctor know about this?
Many natural health researchers paint doctors as evil arms of the pharmaceutical companies. Like in Chaucer…The Doctor and the Apothecary. One does the other’s bidding so they both make a quick buck.
Although definitely there are quite a few doctors who will sell their soul to ‘Big Pharma,” I believe generally doctors want to help their patients. There is just one problem that prevents them from doing that.
In today’s feature article I’ll explain this issue that’s blocking you from being healthier and doctors from doing their job. No doubt this will raise some good comments at the end of the article so make sure you let your voice be heard.
Getting into medical school is quite a challenge. Getting through medical school is even tougher. Doctors have to study sometimes a dozen or more hours per day to get top scores. Only the best and the brightest (and once in a while those who have parents with influence) get through.
And this is more like a marathon than a sprint. A specialist will have spent more than a decade reaching his or her goals and tens of thousands of hours studying. The higher the education they seek, the better grades they have to get.
The problem with formal education like this is that it doesn’t leave much room for creativity. You better know the subject EXACTLY like the professor wants you to know it or you’ll get a dreaded B and not make it through to the next semester with your scholarships intact.
Throughout these thousands of hours of studying, medical students focuse on two methods and two methods only to cure disease:
1) Medications
2) Surgery
That’s it! That’s what being a medical doctor is.
And there is nothing wrong with this in a way. Medical doctors are not nutritionists, psychologists/therapists or fitness trainers. They are medical doctors that have been trained to treat diseases with medications and surgery.
The problems arise either when we try to make them into something they’re not (asking them about advice about fitness for example) or they try to approach subjects they have no educational background to advise on – such as nutrition.
An even bigger problem is that doctors have something of a monopoly on curing and preventing diseases. It would be like the shipping companies having the monopoly of transferring people across the Atlantic even if we also have planes.
This is, of course, due to the overwhelming power and resources the big pharmaceutical companies have. They want to sell their drugs and doctors are their dealers.
It is human nature to consider something you’ve worked hard on to be the best approach- maybe the only approach, especially if that lie has been repeated for years and years throughout medical school. Your normal doctor may therefore disregard anything that doesn’t fit into his/her approach of medication and surgery. It’s not that they’re being dishonest; he/she just doesn’t know any better.
It’s also human nature to seek information that supports our belief system. So your normal doctor seeking continuing education will not go to a natural health researcher for those CEUs, he/she will continue on the path he/she has been on for decades and learn more about drugs and surgery.
There is also a big liability issue involved.
Doctors have to follow specific procedures or they run the risk of being sued, thus causing their insurance to skyrocket. This is an especially big issue in the US. So if a doctor gets a patient in with high cholesterol and doesn’t prescribe Statins, but instead recommends lifestyle changes, the patient may sue him later for malpractice, even if he didn’t follow anything the doctor recommended.
Too frequently doctors are bound by both mental and legal obligations to do things that don’t work.
Conversely, natural health experts are usually more driven by the search for truth. They’re often generalists, whereas doctors are specialists. So we may study homeopathy, nutrition, stress and more and how these things all work together. We’re more focused on being healthy than treating diseases.
Your challenge (and all of ours) is to pick the right expert advice and fit the puzzle pieces all together to fit your specific situation. There are situations where seeking treatment from a traditional medical doctor is much more functional than a natural health-focused person. In other situations, natural health experts will do better.
For example, any type of extreme emergency medical care will almost always be the subject of a medical doctor; i.e., late stages of cancer, passing out from type 2 diabetes, having a heart attack, internal bleeding after a car accident. In these situations, you’d want to have someone call the ambulance because herbal remedies are not going to do the trick.
In the aftermath or as prevention from these kinds of health problems, that’s where natural health experts maybe better suited to help you.
For example, if you’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you may want to check out Jodi Knapp’s three step natural approach to completely reverse type 2 diabetes…
If you’re suffering arthritis there is little the traditional medical system knows how to do other than prescribing pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications. But Shelly Manning has helped hundreds of people to cure their arthritis in 21 days using only natural methods. Learn more about this arthritis approach here…
And of course you know that having long-lasting high blood pressure is a one-way ticket to stroke and heart attack. The traditional medical system’s only tool is medication that carries with it a long list of side effects. However, our three simple exercises have been proven to help almost everyone to bring their blood pressure below 120/80 as soon as today. Try these blood pressure exercises out for yourself here…
You can find more information on various diseases on the right hand side of this page as well as under the article tab at top. The rest of the Internet is also loaded with good information on natural approaches. If you have a good health food store in your neighborhood, the staff there will also usually be an abundance of support.
But first, before doing anything else, please share your insight in the comment section below.
I can't stand the long dissertations only to find you have to pay to find out what it is and most likely you have tried it. Let us order something and please cut the chase.
Whatever happened to 'primum non nocere' – 'first, do no harm'? Has Hippocrates been consigned to the trash can?
using my wife, Karen , computer, and this article is very timely as we visit Congressman Peter De Fazio at a town meeting here in Bandon OR this Noon. It seems like Big Medical / Hosp/Pharma Complex is trying to influence even the time honored practice of MIDWIFERY, which in Oregon does not require a licence. Someone in the coroner's office got the Coos County D.A. to file Homicide charges against a local midwife of 30 years practice with more tan 300 normal deliveriies in the homes with one baby dying after 5 days from a problem related to post-delivery infection, as I understand it at this point.Case: State of Oregon VS. Marcene Rebeck, filed a week or two ago, Thanks-Joe Thomas.
I believe that doctors are basically not going to change! Its just too easy to trade upon peoples ignorance and fears, plus its a known fact today, that the big Pharmaceutical drug companies are in "cahoots" with them. We therefore need to become personally responsible for our own holistic health, and nobody else is going to be as committed to this as we are! There are many ways and means with which to succeed in this. I see many times from different sources of natural medicine that diabetes is virtually curable and preventable today! with blood pressure in hand as well, providing we follow and carry out the correct ways to live , according to the fast growing numbers of Doctors of Natural Medicine who are having great success in most diseases and health problems. And its going to take a bit of sacrifice to comfort foods and convenient fast foods, and improved life styles, in order to accomplish becoming well and happy!
We ve all been conditioned from birth to eat and drink wrongly, mainly because of our upbringing and ignorance. However, today there is so much available information that there is no excuse not to be health minded! So I ve let go of medical doctors (unless there s a birth or emergency of course) and take care of how I live and eat and drink myself, and share this with my family who have also become like minded. Organic foods are an absolute must of course and pure drinking water – and our farmers are becoming hard put to produce them! We need to support them 100%! So if we spread this information more people will join in the fight for natural health!
With regard to the above, how simple it would be to just order what we need in order to be well. But it has become a personal journey and responsibility for each of us, to travel the road to achieve the prize of holistic health for ourselves and our loved ones….
I would be nice if you gave the people the solution for diabetes, high blodpressure etc. for free, if you have the solution, but you also are making this a business, same as big Pharma. Make the world a better place and give your information to the people, anything else is inmoral and cannot be taken serously, its snake-oil all over.
It is also our society which often demands miracle-pills and medicin- many medical doctors feel relief and have some open mind for a different approach – at least this I experienced in Germany, my native.
There is no question, big pharma, as it is now known, is no longer in the health care business. Had an eye drop issue with my pharmacy-call them mini-pharma-over a product I need, or else. Mini-pharma didn't call the opthalmologist, they called the insurer, who nixed the refill for a week, too early, even though a defective container caused the drops to spurt out unused. The clerk is a jerk and the store acts as if you're fortunate to have them, not the other way around, as it once was. I have three excellent doctors to meet my needs, so in my mind the real issues evolve around insurance and pharmaceutical firms. In the wonderful gauge-what-you-can world where drugstores don't set prices and they change seemingly hourly, the aforementioned eye drops once cost ten dollars. Then fifteen. Then thirty. Then one hundred and fifty. All the while the bottle became smaller. The pharmacist, a decent enough guy, explained the price hike came because they want to phase out the original and force patients to use generic. The only issue I have with doctors, not mine, is that I've observed they won't prescribe antibiotics anymore because they think you can build up an immunity, and they won't prescribe pain pills because they think if you need them you're a junky, pain is not pain anymore.
Someone wrote about physicians not giving out antibiotics all the time; well, they gave them to me, and they gave them to me, and they gave them to me. I only respond to “1” (one) antibiotic now; so what will I do when that one begins to “not” work? You can receive too many antibiotics. I did try to tell drs. they were not working; and still received more and more of the same. I am afraid of my blood pressure and diabetes meds now, because only 1 or 2 work to help me. I also do breathing exercises, and guided imagery myself, and they help; but I have a difficult type of diabetes, and BP that goes way up and way down; I am not sure anything will work anymore; but, it wasn’t all doctor’s faults, either. Lack of knowledge, hurrying, working overtime, resting little, eating on the run, and now I am a retired psyc. counselor; cannot donate my skills; it is illegal w/out an active license, cannot work either due to bone problems. Our world; our food; our water; industry; lifestyles are all changed. People with skills have bills to pay, and lives to lead, and the right to make a living. I “hope” they can help me here at Blue Heron, because the doctors skills aren’t enough, nor the meds. Thank You, Christian, Blue Heron Health, and all the skilled researchers here:) taylor
As the first and last comment to date implied, no matter what, it is business. Yours and the pharmas. What both writers forgot is the fact that you guarantie success and refund our money if the programs dont work. I have never heard od a drug company refunding our money if their pills dont work. So lets be fair. Everybody has to make a living. I for one have no problem to pay what you charge for a program that mostly works but yes, tell us at the beginning of your articles that we have to pay for the “real” information.
I'm grateful my doctor uses natural methods for healing as well medicines. She sits down with patients to discuss the best treatment. She is very open to hearing about new proven homeopathic ways to heal and bring health back to her patients.
The day of the family doctor , who used to come to your house have long since passed.I don't remember seeing the same doctor twice in the same year.It looks like more and more you are going to be your own medical detective.I know that if you don't check the pills your taking you could find yourself in trouble.Since I've been working out my resting blood pressure has never gone above 120/80.The problem I have is that wherever you go there are warnings about quitting your medications abruptly. If I make the transition from drugs to natural it's going to be on me if I become more ill , ( just wondering if it's worth the gamble ).
I guess the bottom line is that no-one has all the answers. The medicos have their place as do the various disciplines of natural medicine. Ever since Hippocrates was a lad, medicine has been all about intervention, ie propping up or replacing a body function with a drug or surgical procedure. Essential stuff sometimes. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, I’ll take all the intervention I can get my hands on thanks!
But long term intervention ultimately weakens the body. Try leaving a plaster cast on for a couple of month longer than needed and you’ll likely lose the use of the limb permanently. If you’re constantly swallowing medication to supplement an under preforming body function, the body will reduce it’s own normal system function thus weakening it further.
Our bodies are an amazing self regulating, self repairing organism that will do it’s job without intervention, provided it’s fed the correct foods, moved regularly with exercise and kept hydrated and adequately rested.
Modern medicine is all about substitution and little allowance is made for the bodies incredible ability to regenerate given a chance.
Unfortunately western civilisation took a wrong turn about the time of Hippocrates and decided to go with this philosophy of substitution that we’re stuck with today. Fortunately sites like this one offer the means to make an informed choice of which path feels right for us.
I asked my rheumatologist about how to lose weight. He said he had a surefire plan for weight loss – eat less and exercise more. Wish I had thought of that!
What about a preventive medicine or system with a health stile of life and holistic approach beginning from childhood, where all ours future problems start?
I’d like to see the statistics of the doctors who were sued by those to whom said doctors advised natural remedies.
The AMA is controlled by the Rockefeller Foundation. If doctors don’t do what that foundation dictates, they lose their license. Dr. Rebecca Carley is one of what I am sure are many that this has happened to.
Personally, I only go to the doctor to get a diagnosis. Then, if humanly possible, I treat it holistically.
Many years ago in Los Angeles California, our family doctor, who was educated in Vienna Austria said, “Stay away from doctors; they’ll kill you.” I wish that I had remembered that when my varicose veins were giving me pain, because the surgeon must have botched the operation on my left leg that he did in 1986, because now I am suffering real pain, swelling, and internal bleeding down by my left ankle and in that general area including my foot which is constantly swolen.
They took out my thyroid when I was 16. They had $ signs in their eyes. I trusted them. All I needed was a little iodine in my diet. Because of natural food people, I am ok but I am not normal. My eyes especially and skin drive me up the wall. I had prayed Lord! fix me up or take me home. I was putting the car in reverse instead of forward. I ran red lights. I was loosing my memory. I could not get my pills unless I had a mamogram. After I found out what they were, I just knew that smashed boob would get cancer from the thing. Now I tell the doctor what I want and glare at them if they dont give it. If they wont I will go to someone else.
Thankyou natural folks! You saved my life.!
A televised Holistic Osteopath by the name of Dr. Richard Becker is a Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor and a very well trusted physician who has a practice in Texas, his show is called “Your Health”.
He is one of the few Dr’s who focuses on a natural holistic approach to better health and he’s on tv.
His website is http://www.bioinnovations.net
I am not at all affiliated with the broadcast, I just want to share the information.
Your articles hit home with me!
how to combat anxiety depression/?
This article is simply brilliant by all standards, Thank you.
This article is really brilliant. Thank you for your healthy advices.
Thank you for this excellent article. Essentially I agree with what you have presented. Personally, I use some natural products, with the knowledge and agreement with my personal doctor. I have researched my health issues and have selected certain natural products which I use. I use only two medications. As you indicated, the medical doctors are basically trained by Big Pharma to prescribe pharmaceuticals (dealing with the symptom) and perform surgery, this it their speciality, whereas the Naturalpathatic doctors are more generalists and look for the cause of the illness and work with the cause.
Of course, at the end of the article, you have three e-books to solve our problems.
Perhaps USA is different from the UK. Medical advice here for high BP, for example is firstly diet, exercise and lifestyle and only if that fails is medication used. Se British Hypertension Society web site for details. I think that the medical profession gets an unjustified bad press on these issues and this can lead to people cobsulting unqualified people on serious issues.
Good summation of the health care system, and more kind than I would have been! lol Loved the Shipping and Airplane analogy… definitely a keeper. Our opinions of course are only as good as the information we base them on. If you had my traiining and experience you paragraph about when to go to the hospital would be different. Heart attack… level measuring tsp of cayenne in a half glass of water, preferably warm. I never leave home without it… stops heart attacks by the time you can count to ten. It works, I have personal and client testimonies. Learned it from Dr. Christopher's School of Natural Healing during my Master Herbalist studies. The other situations can also be handled naturopathically in an emergency, but space does not allow it here. Namaste!
It's the people standing up and resisting that will stop the madness. Good for you guys! If you haven't seen http://www.thrivemovement.com please see the beautiful documentary detailing what is going on with banksters, big pharma and more. There are peaceful solutions and it's uplifting. The movie is up for documentary of the year. View for free at the site.
