Balancing dietary intake of certain fats has recently been highlighted as the best, most effective way to prevent and also cure arthritis.
But what does that mean and what are the fats that are being “buzzed” about?
Scientists have been looking very heavily in the last few years at the balance between Omega -6 fatty acids and Omega-3 Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAS).
What they are finding is that when the ratio of -6 to -3 gets upended, as is typical with most Western diets that are packed with processed foods, arthritis gets out of control.
Scientists in South Korea at Korea University College of medicine in Seoul found that getting the balance back to a healthier state by taking Omega -3 PUFA supplements has been effective at undoing the damage.
They looked at rheumatoid arthritis patients taking the supplement and noted a 48% reduction in occurrence of the disease.
Just 2.7 grams daily of the supplement was enough to show significant improvement for most of the participants.
Many over-the-counter and health food store supplements have options ranging in per-serving dosage of 2 to 10 grams.

This article is very vague and of little help to anyone looking for information on arthritis. The article is telling of the ratio of O-3 to O-6 can help with arthritis but at no point what the desirable ratio is. So whats the point. It would also have been useful to mention foods which contain O-3 and O-6.
Omega 3 fatty acids are critical to tamp down inflammation. But what is causing the swelling, pain and inflammation? It’s overgrowths of fungi living in the body and munching on tissue. (See Recaging the Beast at Amazon.) The yeast-free diet and anti-fungals such as oregano oil and olive leaf extract will bring reumatoid arthritis under control quickly.
Another wonderful effect of omega 3 fatty acids is they boost immune system function. When immune systems are pumping, disease cannot take hold.
Omega 3 & 6 are the very helpfull to cure arthritis.
OMEGA 3 IS VERY HELPFULL!
good to know that, and also good for the heart.
I keep reading all these articles on arthritis. I have no cartilage in my right knee which is causing pain. What can I do or eat to help alleviate this problem?
Yeah, not specific enough.Omega -3 PUFA supplements is Omega -3 PolyUunsaturatedFatty Acids supplements. Correct my math as needed.
Fish oil has about 30% PUFA in a 1000 mg. To get 2.7 grams, you need 9 1000 mg capsules per day just to get what they call a “significant improvement”- which could be statistically significant but clinically very small.
Even so, that’s a lot of fish per day.
