Arthritis sufferers looking for a natural way to combat their pain have an age-old treatment to take advantage of: exercise. According to a new research study out of Duke University Medical Center reports.
Scientists have known for decades that people with weight issues had higher rates of arthritis pain. However, it was assumed that it was their weight –and not the lack of physical activity—that caused arthritis pain to skyrocket.
This study on obese mice with rheumatoid arthritis found that the exercising mice felt less pain by exercising even if they didn’t drop a single pound. The scientists recommend those with arthritis to take up light forms of exercise –such as walking—to help reduce pain levels.
