Your doctor tells you that you might benefit from a diuretic for blood pressure, and a sedative for anxiety. You are frustrated that his or her answer is limited to drugs and eliminates the possibility of a natural treatment method.
There is a solution, though, that solves both problems, and it involves a nightly cup of a hot, delicious tea.
This tea is gaining popularity but chances are you’ve never even heard of it.
Herbs have long been used in elixirs, tonics and teas to soothe a variety of ailments, but one in particular seems to be working overtime in its wide array of benefits.
Not only does it fight inflammation, but it is among the more powerful diuretics, has calming powers and can even thin mucous enough to help out with a cough or cold.
[adrotate group=”5″]Not found readily in stores, Linden is an herb that is gaining popularity online as a dried herb and also in capsules from a number of supplement manufacturers.
Linden tea is made by steeping the dried herb for a few minutes in hot water. It contains a powerful chemical called farnesol, which is known to be a vasodilator.
The tea works as a great natural diuretic as it promotes perspiration during sleep. We lose about a cup of water every night through our sleep process but farnesol helps to prevent edema and water retention.
The vasodilating effects of the farnesol help to relax blood vessels, lowering blood pressure. It also helps to naturally calm busy minds and actually relaxes the whole body.
Because it works systemically, and can affect all the different parts of the body, it is important not to take this tea if you are already on a diuretic or vasodilator for high blood pressure without visiting with the doctor. Too much of a good thing is too much.
Likewise, don’t just go off your meds and substitute the tea, as this can make matters worse. You can, however, wean off drugs and into the tea under the supervision of your health care provider.
Find it online with a simple Internet search or in health food stores either as an herb for tea or as a supplement in capsules.

Surely this is common lime tea, available cheaply at most Health food shops. I do hope that this is not going to be touted as the next miracle cure with a steep rise in price. Look at what’s being charged for Cho-yung tea, ridiculous. It seem everything and anything nowadays is being stuffed into a capsule and sold at inflated prices. I have had great success with oolong Tea for controlling my weight and this is available for 10% of the price charged for the above. Good info about Linden though and will certainly add this to my Health regime again.
Can not seem to find the tea mentioned, can you provide some links.
Cure alls for everything?
I am going to try this one!
Brenda Robertson, let me know if it works and I'll try it too.
ost herbal remedies are just placebos but some seem to work. Can’t trust if there’s a profit motive.
Where do I get the farnesol tea from need help
Excellent article. Will certainly take a closer look at this herbal tea.
Where can I get this herb or tea please. Can someone help me please
Did not know about the BP benefits, but knew that it was a good sleep aid especially for children.Shall endeavour to drink it more often, but will check with MD first as I'm on BP pills.
I have only found 'linden flower tea' at allabouttea.co.uk in he UK. Will this do the same thing?
In Florida , you can get it at Publix. A company called Badia makes it. Or try Whole Foods or a health food store.
In A previous post I mentioned that the tea could be commonly purchased In such shops as Holland and Barratt, Tesco etc in the U.K but feared the price may have gone up owing to the claims made, and guess what I could no longer find this very common lime Tree flower tea in any of the outlets, Probably all going into capsules, however Hambleden Herbs still sell the loose tea and teabags at about £2 for twenty, about the price I would expect to pay.
I purchased this tea at my local good health store (they have lots of different teas). However, call me crazy but if this tea is a diuretic, and your body naturally loses water during the sleep process, then doesn’t that deplete the body of the water it needs? I have read that one should drink a big glass of water before bed (due the the depletion during the sleep process). Losing water during the sleep process and drinking Linden tea which…….. makes you lose more water, doesn’t seem sensible to me. I would think that this would leave you dehydrated!
There many kind or type of tea, such green tea and so on. So which kind of tea you are suggesting?
The Jury seems to be out on this one, investigating the claims that this tea is good for Heart/Blood Pressure health there is a caveat about 50% of the time that Prolonged use of this tea can Damage the Heart, Suggest reading through all of these before making any decision to supplement. We used to have this tea after dinner at home as an aid to digestion, along with Mint or Chamomile, I think its always in everyone’s interest to remember that all herbs/Plants contain Chemical compounds, that may actually Harm your Health, and of course all supplements are not created equal, there efficacy or not depending on where grown, when harvested etc, My own beliefs about most supplements after 50 years is that the majority are an absolute waste of Money, look at the run recently of Goji Berries, just because Madonna was taking them. Stick to Garlic/Fish oil/Vitamin C/ Green or Oolong Tea and Porridge and oat bran with Blueberries every day for breakfast, Plenty of oily Fish, Lean Poultry and Veggies/Brown Rice. Pack in The Smoking and restrict Alcohol to the Units recommended (Red Wine)and Learn a procedure such as EFT, and walk for one Half hour 365 days a year, This should be enough to start with over the next 3 months, In fact a nutritionist would Probably Charge you a fortune for the above advice, That everyone knows anyway, there are no miracle cures despite the ads.
I drink “Blood Pressure” tea by TripleLea-Tea.com, a proprietary blend of Chinese herbs used by them for centuries. Market of Choice grocery stores carry Triple Leaf Teas for $4.39, and the website will give you the name of retailers in your area.
I wonder if common lime tree flowers can be dried, and used for making the tea? I have a spindly lime tree, but I know someone who has a Mexico Lime Tree, which blooms many times all the year round. It has many sizes of limes on the tree at the same time it blooms. georgia
boss!
I like to do research on theses different herbs or recommended things. You can look for them on Amazon, puritan pride, iherb.com. Check out prices and any info you can find. If you are taking in enough water or liquids there shouldn’t be any trouble with dehydration. We drink constantly all day long. Also if you start your day off with lemon juice, honey, apple cider vinegar, and water you kick start your ph balance. I also use turmeric and cinnamon to make tea, ginger too. I have problems with bp,pain, inflamation and the natural way is best for me.
I called 2 Health stores. Neither has it. My Dr. recently insisted I take a pill that did cause a lot of Urinating. They said take it in Day time so won’t get up nites. I tried it, but did not like the way if made me feel.Took it @ night awhile, then bloated up so badly, Had abdominal pains like I was in Labor Pains. Hair looked DEAD.I thought I had colon or ovarian cancer.I tried to think what I was ingesting to cause this. Looked up side effects of this CHLORTHALIDONE.I had ALL of them.Severe intestinal bloating, pain. I would wake @ nite, with tissues inside my mouth STUCK together so I had to get water in my mouth to loosen it. I STOPPED THAT PILL immediately. TOOK me some time to get my bowels, stomach etc. back to Normal. Dr. was calling for me to come for B.P, Check. I told her I WILL NOT RUN to her again,PAY a $15. copay to have them take my B.P. It is always hi when I have to go sit there, waiting for them to enter the room (after 1/2 hr.), Then she always said “Have to take blood test.” There has NEVER been a thing wrong with my blood, kidneys etc. I told her that PILL nearly KILLED me. My B.P. is due to an AlCOHOLIC daughter (my only daughter) have 4 older sons. And other problems with dating someone to dance with. Forget that if they have a daughter who is a BULLY & scared Daddy might spend a cent on someone other than them. My B.P. is fine most of the time.
Because I am 86 (a very young 86) people tend to think they have to BOSS me around, treat me like an Imbecile.
Anyway I do take a mild B.P. Med, that can actually be ordered on here without a SCRIPT. but Dr. are EAGER to write SCRIPTS. That is about ALL they know how to do.
I will try to find this & try it.
can you drink this tea even if you are taking medication for blood presure.
Whoever thinks that Lime tea is the same as Linden tea is mistaken. they are two totally different trees. Linden trees do not make fruit, but lime trees do. Please do not confuse the two
I agree with Richard123456 on April 4th… I will stick to my India all organic tea and walk til I die to lower my BP.
I will stick with my EFT program, walking and India all organic tea. But, thanks for the info anyway.
Thank You Christian Goodman – You’re the BEST.
Been on B/P meds for 12 years. Started at 10 mg, then 5 mg. then 2.5 mg.
All last year was totally off the meds. Had my Medical in Nov., Chol was up a notch, so was called in. Cuff was put on my arm, at the same time asking me “do you know the signs of H. attack? Stroke? you better have someone available to call 911***** then puff, puff, puff on my arm RESULT 200/100.
I had to go in every week, same result !!! showed my book of results from home, even took my monitor in to compare. Dr. now knows I’m totally scared.
Now —- starting again at 10 mg. Wants me to also take Lipitor (again), Paxil (makes me so draggy all day) and Ativan to sleep. Dr. knows I don’t want to take ANY meds. and is upset with me.
Got Linden Tea TODAY. Yeah !!!!!
I don`t get it! If Linden tea, flax seed, water melon etc etc are all effective in lowering blood pressure why should one `purchase` your magical exercises?
There are several different types of lime trees which do not fruit, or seldom fruit. One kind the leaves are used for seasoning foods, and the leaves all look like one leaf made above a larger leaf underneath. I would never try just “any” lime leaf tea to lower BP, however, I believe most lime leaves can be used to make a nice tea, or a flavoring, and they also just might lower blood pressure by decreasing the fluid level in the body. I will look for Linden tea. I drink different teas often.
Thank You, Christian, for an interesting article and for sparking my interest in like trees again. I had a small tree that was not supposed to make limes, and the leaves were the double leaf on leaf type, but it did suddenly put on blooms and limes. It did not survive our drought of several years ago, however, and I am looking for that type lime tree again. Georgia, again
A while back they where saying green tea as the miracle tea. So I started drinking two cups of green tea each day and had to get up three times at night to urinate. Not worth it. They say ask your doctor-the truth is most doctors don’t know a thing about natural remedies for high blood pressure-they deal in drugs.
