Bodies function better when all the vitamin and mineral boxes are checked, plain and simple.
Indian researchers recently focused on ONE single vitamin and its amazing power to lower cholesterol to a healthy level using only two vitamin pills per day.
Making sure to get optimum intake of vitamin C everyday does more than keep the flu bug away, according to researchers in India.
They looked at the effects of supplementation with 1000 milligrams of vitamin C daily, split into 500mg twice per day.
As compared to a group that received a placebo, the group receiving the supplemental vitamin C was able to reduce their LDL cholesterol to healthier levels and increase HDL (good cholesterol) at the same time.
The placebo group showed no changes to their cholesterol. There were no other changes to diet in either group.
While diagnosed deficiencies of vitamin C are responsible for diseases such as rickets, it is theorized that not having the OPTIMUM levels of a vitamin can also cause a host of problems that are hard to pin on nutrition alone.
However, studies like the Indian one that focus on the effects of supplementation on certain diseases help to illustrate that simply getting the minimum amount of a nutrient can still cause problems. Getting the optimum amount needed for the body’s systems to function at their highest capacity is still being studied.
The easiest and most reliable way to naturally drop cholesterol without drugs…
We are told incessantly that high cholesterol is bad for us. But low cholesterol is far more serious. Cholesterol is an essential compound in our bodies. Low levels of cholesterol are associated with increased total mortality, cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, antisocial behaviour, depression, suicide, increased susceptibility to infections and other conditions.
The only information that reaches the masses as regards cholesterol, is that which is controlled by the upper echelons of the medical and pharmaceutical controlling elite. Through their paid for media moguls and media pundits they propagate the MYTH that is cholesterol.
The information and studies on the truth of cholesterol is abundant, so why is this information kept in the dark? The reason is simple to explain. Firstly, there are 30,000 medical journals published and no doctor can be expected to read them all. Secondly, wherever heart disease is mentined in conjunction with cholesterol, out of the many studies that have been published, only a mere handful – the supportive studies – are quoted. The vast majority that do not support the MYTH are rarely mentioned.
Those preferential citations have skewed the facts. In addition, pharmaceutical companies who sell cholesterol lowering drugs produce many publications which broadcast the cholesterol lowering MYTH to millions. So it is'nt really surprising that overworked professionals continue to teach us that cholesterol is dangerous, and pharmaceutical companies aggressively push their cholesterol lowering drugs.
If people were to take responsibility for THEIR well being, and not leave it to others, and did the research that is important for them, they would then be able to make an informed choice when confronting anyone from the medical profession. It is their life that is at stake, Doctors bury their mistakes, and remember after the two biggest killers on the planet, cancer and heart disease, doctors come third on that list. Who would want to put their lives in the hands of such a profession? The evidence is all around us, they cannot cure a runny nose, and we now have a society that is suffering untold plagues that vitually leave no household untouched.
All they do is TREAT, and treat some more, nothing about prevention, or a cure. For a healthy nation generates little profits for all that is the 'medical profession.'
The proof of the prescription is in the taking, and the evidence speaks for itself.
Very useful information.
interesting and doable..thanx.
THE SEEDS OF ILL HEALTH.
Base meals on starches we are told. Eat bread, pasta, rice, breakfast cereals. Indeed, we eat more cereals than any other foodstuff. But all cereal grains pose significant health risks to humans. Wheat on which we depend the most is probably the worst of them all. And Legumes (beans) are almost as bad.
All cereal grains have significant nutritional shortcomings which are apparent upon analysis. (Professor Lorrain Cordein.)
Like all living things, plants have no desire to become the food source of another species. Their sole purpose is to survive and reproduce. They have evolved to do this with the defence mechanisms which deter insects and animals that would eat them. Many plants also provide their seeds with substances which ensure the survival of the seed and subsequent seedling until it can synthesize its own protective compounds.
Cereal grains are no exception. They contain a whole cocktail of chemical protectorants that may be outright toxic, antinutritional or uncomfortable to a predatory animal – including us. For example the fact that wheat grains can lie buried in the soil for several years before they finally sprout demonstrates how very successful are the toxic properties of the bran coating in warding off soil microbes. Bran is extremely durable and resistant to breakdown by organic action.
Of course these defences don't always work. Insects, birds, and other animals have evolved to cope with these substances and, by so doing, are able to consume cereals with few if any adverse effects.
We, unfortunately, have not.
The main sources of ill health due to higher levels of cereals are;.
Phytic acid – found in bran which binds to minerals, inhibiting their absorption.
Lectins – which also reduce intestinal absorption of many key nutrients.
Protease Inhibitors – which inhibit the metabolism of dietary proteins.
Alpha-amylase inhibitors – which prevent starch digestion and are known to be prominent allergens.
Alkylrescorcinols – which suppress growth and cause kidney damage.
Molecular-mimicking proteins – amino acid sequences that have the same structural form as a variety of amino acid sequences in body tissue and can cause auto-immune diseases.
If that is not enough, most of the above is also applicable to legumes; beans, particularly soy, and other pulses.
Last but not least, some cereals are dirty.
Scientists connected to the flour industry have for many years published articles in trade journals not seen by the general public which describe in detail the filth found in flour.
The wheat grain from which flour is made has a groove on one side which is so deep it goes more than half way through the grain. This groove naturally contains dirt and microbes that have accumulated while the plant was growing. And it is such a deep and tight groove that the grain cannot be thoroughly cleaned.
After harvest, the grain is stored in huge silos until it is required for use. These silos are the homes of insects, mice and rats. For these reasons, by the time grain reaches the mills, it is infested with insects, and droppings, urine and hair from rats and mice. Although the grain will have been sprayed with insecticides and anti-fungal chemicals to help preserve them (the chemicals themselves being an unwelcome trespass on our health) there will still be insects, grubs and their droppings inside the wheat grains, which cannot be separated out easily.
The mills do what they can to clean the grain but its a daunting task, and flour has to be such a cheap product that they cannot afford to do very much. Inevitably, dirty grain goes through the mills to be ground into flour. Microscopic examination of flour commonly reveals ground up fragments of insects and rat hair, and traces of rat dung and urine. Bacteriological tests of flour have indicated an extremely high content of microbes. For this reason, the flour from which our daily bread is made is probably more highly contaminated than anything else that is to be found in the food industry.
To this can be added;.
A plethora of insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides such as disul-photon(Di-Syston) while growing.
Protectants' such as chlorpyrifos-methyl pyrethrins which are added to grain to protect it against insects.
Fumigation in the form of methyl bromide, aluminium phosphide and magnesium phosphide during storage and as the grains are being treated.
And when the wheat is made into bread and similiar products:
Overheating which often denatures the protein.
Dough conditioners and preservatives, partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and toxic soya flour.
Chemical preservatives to extend shelf life far beyond a few days it would take to spoil naturally.
So while we are taught that bread is the staff of life, we should look at the facts. There are many parts of the world where they do not eat bread at all. Dr, Staffen Lindeberg, a Swedish physician and scholar of evolutionary nutrition points out that a typical European gets at least three quarters of his or her calories from foods that were practically unavailable during human evolution; milk products, most oils, refined sugar, processed foods like margarine and. of course, cereals. There is little doubt that modern European diets rely far to heavily on grain based foods, whether it be wholewheat bread or hand made pasta.
Like Lindeberg, Professor Loren Cordain teaches that the widely accepted notion that cereal grains are the foundation of a healthy diet leaves people woefully short of nutrients and vitamins better provided by meat, vegetables and fruit.
To this can be added;.
Once again [at least] Michael Cook is on message.
But it doesn’t seem to make any difference, does it?!
Still carrying on about Cholesterol as if it was a disease of it’s own. It’s time you guys moved on. Others have.
Check out Caleb Lee’s posts. an alternative to your blog. It doesn’t mean your blog is not useful, but you are getting to be out of date when it comes to nutritional advice for good health and weight loss.
2/3 of the american diet is made from 3 base ingredients, wheat, corn and soy. It should be less than 5%.
We should only be eating healthy fats, which are the highly saturated fats. Why? Because they are stable. Polyunsaturated fats like sunflower, canola oils etc are unstable. They rob our bodies of antioxidents because they take them for themselves. So we have more inflammation, which is seriously undesirable.
Same with sugar [fructose]. So no fruit juices please let alone sodas and watch out for prepackaged foods.
It’s an amazing feeling to get off sugar addiction, which is very difficult, but suddenly natural foods taste sweet enough on their own, even coffee doesn’t need added sugar. So many fruits are bred to taste sweet they are too sweet.
I also lost 10 kilos in about 6 months, down from 93 to 83Kg. Why ? because eating as above means you don’t get hungry and you eat less. Have a protein rich breakfast and see. It’s the big secret to losing weight. Eat less!!
Once off the addictive foods like sugar and all those cereals then you appetite control mechanism will restart and weight will come off. And you won’t feel hungry. In fact you will feel really well!!
Aloha,
Great information.People in India with high blood pressure who were vegetarians, also saw a great improvement in thier BP with 500mg of vitamin C a day.
Michael Cook, while I like your enthusiasm, I doubt that you can name me a population of people recognized for living into thier upper 80's and beyond, who eat the type of diet that you are recommending, especially in the Western world.. I have been a vegetarian for 41 years. I am the developer of the New Jump Swing Healthy Aging and Athletic Nutrition program. I also happen to be one of the only authors vegetarian or meat eaters that I know of, who was willing to put his blood analysis in his book to document the effects of his diet on his personal health. While it is true that low levels of cholesterol are bad, Americans don't seem to have that probleml.Just like being underweight is very bad, but that's also not the trend in the US.Now that we have seen that people can die trying to climb mountains, I ask you this. Who would you rather climb a mountain with? Someone who has done extensive research on mountain climbing and written several articles and books on the subjet. Or someone who has done extensive research on mountain climbing, used that research to break world records in mountain climbing and written books on the subject. I am a three times Guinness world record holder in the name of vegetarianism. I welcome you to my web site-http://www.newjumpswing.com/pdn_vegetarianism.html.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all with Health, Peace of mind and Prosperity!
Donald Thomas- When you say that you are vegetarian, are you a strict 'vegan' type, or do you have a broader scope to your diet? It is known that people who live near the equator have better health than those who live in the more northerly parts of the world. They have less suicides, less depression, S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) caused by a lack of sunshine, plus depletion of one of the most powerful vitamins – D3, which is uniquely associated with the immune system. Sunshine, like water and food, is a powerful contributor to ones well being. You seem to be more fortunate than most in that regard. We here in the UK live in a rather more hostile and sun deprived area of the world than your good self sir, with you having the advantage of far more exotic foods to choose from. In the Edwardian and Victorian era here in the UK the average life span of a man was 47 years of age, and 54 for a woman. I would like to add here a part from a book on nutrition and health regarding the British Diet. Throughout our history a healthy diet was one which was based mainly on foods of animal origin and high in fats. Where the major health problems occured in Britain, it was not among people who ate a lot of fat, but in those who did not get enough. The comparatively wealthy, who ate meat and dairy produce regularly, had average lifespans which were comparable with or better than those of today. It was the poor who could not afford such foods who suffered high levels of infant mortality, poor growth and shorter, less healthy lives.
In the 1920's, Sir John Boyd Orr conducted a number of studies which compared growth rates of children in public schools with those in state run schools. He found that those from wealthier backgrounds were significantly taller than their poorer peers. After examining their relative diets and changing the constituents, Boyd Orr proved conclusively that children of the socially deprived, who lived on a largely carbohydrate diet of bread and potatoes, benefitted from a diet supplemented with full-cream milk.
Boyd Orr's studies found confirmation in observations among the people's of India made by Sir Robert McCarrison, a colonial medical officer. He compared the southern Indians, who ate very little in the way of dairy produce and who were of stunted growth and prone to disease, with their neighbours to the north, the Sikhs, who drank a great deal of milk and were fit and healthy. Maasai, who lived almost exclusively on blood and milk, with their unhealthy vegetarian neighbours, the Kikuyu. That added to the weight of evidence.
Boyd Orr concluded that the food intake of half the British population was seriously deficient in a number of what he called 'protective constitiuents' which were necessary for good health. In the late 1930's he proposed that the British people should drink more milk, and eat more dairy produce and meat. The British government of the time recommended that milk consumption should be doubled and introduced free school milk. The British Medical Association, giving specific amounts, advised that the population should consume 80% more milk, 55% more eggs, 40% more butter and 30% more meat. Later, with the advent of television advertising, the government sponsored its own 'go to work on an egg' campaign.
Except for the period of food rationing during the 1940s and early 1950s, Boyd Orr's recommended diet was the standard British fare. We ate breakfast of eggs and fatty bacon fried in lard: dripping, the fat from the sunday roast, was saved to have on bread and toast: we drank full cream milk and ate butter. Only the poor ate margarine: and only the poor had high levels of disease. The recommendations to eat a relatively high-fat, high-animal protein diet led to a spectacular decrease in diseases: rickets, called the 'English Disease' because it was so widespread together with other defeciency diseases, largely disappeared from our lives: child deaths from diptheria, measles, scarlet fever and whooping cough also fell dramatically well before the introduction of anti-biotics and widespread immunisation. Although other factors helped, most important was the higher resistance of children to disease that followed from better nutrition. That dietary advice, given to the people of Britain in 1938 remained the basis of our diet for nearly 50years, during which time our mean life expectancy increased from 60 years in 1930 to 70years by 1960 and by 1990 it had reached 75years. ( From the book 'Natural health and weight loss' by a Barry Groves.)
Vitamin C has proved, over the years, to be one of the most important vitamins that anyone can take. However, it seems the likes of the European Food Standards Agency is trying to cut down the amount we take by reducing the Recommended Daily Amount ( RDA ) to a level where it is useless. A couple of years ago one could walk into a chemist and get tablets of 3000 mcg, whereas today any packaging will tell you that the RDA of vitamin C is 80 mcg. This amount is totally useless for preventing any illness etc but the various agencies come up with this limit, no doubt at the behest of the large pharmaceutical companies who all want to see us unwell so they can boost their profits by providing us with medications which have so many side effects, which in turn will require other medications to counter these side effects. Vitamin C can be taken in large doses, particularly intravenously, where doses of 75 Grammes ( yes grammes )have been proved to help beat cancer without many of the side effects. You have only to ‘Google’ IAA or intravenous ascorbic acid cancer cure to see the success of vitamin C. It is a vitamin that we all need more of and should be encouraged to take it regularly without the pharma imposed limits.
Donald Thomas – Having been to Hawaii about fifteen years ago; when landing at Honolulu airport and being transported from the airport to one of the 'Outrigger' hotels where we were staying at. I noticed several banners one after the other on the foreshore, for several hundred yards they were displayed, as seen by all as we passed on the bus taking us to our hotel. They read; "Arthritic Association Meeting this Saturday on the Foreshore." (Date Displayed) I turned to our Tour Guide and said, "You have Arthritis in Paradise." From that moment on I took note of people in general and was surprised to see more than I expected on some sort of aid to support them in their mobility. Sunshine without the right diet is unhealthy, a good diet without sunshine can compensate for the lack of it.
Well, Vit C (with bioflavanoids and rosehips..I believe worked better than ascorbic acid alone) is what I began on, which helped my asthma tremendously! And, kept me for years from flus, colds, bronchial conditions as well. I’ve now added a few other supplements, but Vit. C is first on my personal list!
Just a few comments. John Doyle..sugar was a bad addiction for me, along with other things, but interesting, it’s when I switched to Organic foods when my appetite/cravings stopped and I began to lose weight. I have no restrictions other than it being organic (even organic sugar)…and still no more cravings. And, no Dr. Oz, it’s not for the elite and snooty only 🙂 And, William, yes agree totally. 🙂
I am so confused about all of this. If you try to take all of the supplements they suggest you are eating handfuls of pills daily – I am just not sure what to take anymore – however I WANT to gt off the metformin and the cholesterol pill they are making me take. I also take a BP med and Hydrochlorothiaxzide. I want OFF all of these things and was told to try to quit eating gluten and wheat – Arghhhhh – before you know it all I will be eating is pills. I am trying to do more veggies and fruit but honestly here in the north the fruit is the pits. It looks good in the store and you bring it home and it tastes like nothing no flavour, nothing – it is getting me down. I joined the gym to get some exercise but have one hell of a time getting myself there. I am going to go on my lunch hour which has worked for me in the past – You seem like you know alot about this stuff Micheal.
Aloha,
