Seaweed has been touted for years as a highly nutritious, health-boosting plant that helps improve a variety of conditions. However, not all seaweed is created equal.
Scientists have discovered that a particular species has powerful benefits not found in any other kind of seaweed.
Food scientists working at NutraMara marine research group in Ireland have discovered that a species of seaweed, palmaria palmate (known to the locals as dulse) contains chemicals known to reduce blood pressure.
What sets this seaweed apart is that no other species in the world has been found to contain the chemicals, called renin-inhibitory peptides.
The synthetic version of the peptides are used commonly in medications for reducing high blood pressure, but as most everyone knows by now, medications come with a host of dangerous side effects.
To find the same effective peptides naturally in a food source is a tremendous benefit, especially for people who like seaweed dishes.
Although other types of seaweed do not include this positive chemical, they include many other health benefits.
If seaweed isn’t your thing and you prefer an easier method to reduce blood pressure, find out how, using 3 easy blood pressure exercises…
This is the kind of article I like to see! I do want to know if this type of seaweed is available, somewhere, for sale. Thank you again, Christain Goodman;)
I remember many years ago my Father (WHO KNEW ABOUT HERBAL’S) said that for every malady that affects mankind, there is a cure in nature to overcome these conditions.
We just have to be smart enough to recognise what or where they are, or be given the knowledge by someone who actually knows or has “Studied The Art”.
Of course as a young man, I was totally bullet proof and didn’t really want to sit still long enough to be given that knowledge, but if I could have my time over again…..he was a fountain of that knowledge and I’m sure it was that which gave him a long & healthy life……105 years of it…….?
In the middle (or Dark) ages people were put to death for having such knowledge, they were looked upon as “WITCHES” by the “Establishment” and in many cases were either drowned by ducking or burnt alive.
Fear of the unknown was the greatest impediment to obtaining that knowledge, people were loathed to study “Natural of Herbal Treatments” for fear of being outcast or put to death.
Not much has really changed today, the establishment doesn’t like those who espouse natural treatment because of the “MEDICAL ASSOCIATIONS & BIG PHARMA’s” and their “COMBINED” political clout.
I know that we may be a little more civilised today & we don’t actually drown or burn those with the knowledge of alternatives, but sometimes the stigma attached to having or possessing that knowledge is possibly just as bad…..?
In closing I must add that the medical associations who at times make some encouraging, even almost miraculous advancements in treatment of disease/illness, are, after one hundred years of “PRACTICE”, still pursuing the “PHILOSOPHY of CUT BURN & POISON” as an answer to most perceived medical problems.
Oh yes, I expect a knock on my front door any time soon from the Sheriff & His Trusty Men, to take me to the ducking stool at out local pond, so I’ll say Cheers dears.
article short on info. What BP levels are you talking about, where can dulse be found retail-wise, in healthfood stores as supplement??? etc.
