How Arthritis is Lethal in an Unexpected Way (very important)Many people think of arthritis as only a physical disability or just as a painful nuisance.

Most sufferers, however, note that it can be much worse than that. A new study now shows that it can even kill.

But there is a silver lining to all this.

Esme Fuller-Thomson and her research team from the University of Toronto have just identified one of the hidden dangers of arthritis.

Originally, they were curious about the factors that increase people’s risk of attempting to commit suicide. During the course of their investigation, they noticed that arthritis sufferers were significantly more likely to try to take their own life than the general population.

They used the information collected by the 2012 Canadian Community Health Survey-Mental Health to identify 4,885 people with arthritis and 16,859 with healthy joints. They checked for suicide attempts in both samples, and found the following:

• 3.8 percent of men with arthritis attempt suicide, while only two percent of men without arthritis try it.
• 5.3 percent of women with arthritis have attempted suicide, while only 3.2 percent of women without arthritis have done so.

This shows that the suicide risk for arthritics can be almost twice the risk compared to non-sufferers.

This is just one more reason to seek a solution to cure arthritis.
