Do These Delicious Fruits and Vegetables Cure High Blood Pressure? You know that blood pressure medications cause serious side effects.

But not taking the medications, you risk spikes in blood pressure that will lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney
failure or something worse.

But how about if a group of fruits and vegetables could drop blood pressure as well as meds, and even more effectively – but without any side effects?

Academics at the Houston College of Pharmacy recently discovered one of the nicer treatments for high blood pressure.

Basically, if you eat plenty of berries, your blood pressure will decrease.

How does this work?

Your kidneys help to regulate your blood pressure by varying the amount of sodium that they excrete in your urine.

If your blood pressure is high and there is a lot of sodium in your blood, your kidneys dump a lot of sodium. If there is a lack of sodium in your blood, your kidneys send the sodium they receive straight back into your bloodstream to ensure that there is enough.

To know whether they are meant to excrete or recycle, your kidneys receive a message from your brain, in the form of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that carries messages from your brain to other parts of your body.

To receive these messages, your kidneys have dopamine receptors without which they would not be able to interpret the messages. Researchers have long known that oxidative damage to your kidneys’ dopamine receptors prevent them from receiving these messages.

In the December 2014 edition of the journal Hypertension, the Houston researchers discovered that berries, among other foods, activate a protein that protects your kidneys’ dopamine receptors from oxidative damage.

They specifically found this benefits in resveratrol and sulforaphane, two polyphenols naturally present in many fruits and vegetables.

Resveratrol is abundant in red grapes, red wine, peanut butter, dark chocolate, pomegranate, blueberries, bilberries, and cranberries.

Sulforaphane is present in broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, green and red cabbage, watercress, mustard greens, and horseradish.
