The Good Thing About Type 2 Diabetes (it may prevent death)Being a horrendous disease with symptoms varying from loss of limbs to sudden death, and being the fastest growing plague in the world today, type 2 diabetes obviously most often gets a pretty bad reputation.

But there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Having type 2 diabetes can actually prevent an even more serious disease. One that always leads to a great suffering and often sudden death.

A study conducted at the Harvard School of Public Health reveals that people with type 2 diabetes have a much lower risk of developing ALS.

ALS is a classical motor neuron disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This disease got worldwide attention in 2014 with the so-called “bucket challenge.”

ALS is characterized by regions in the spinal cord having certain portions of degenerated nerve cells. Since these nerve cells are associated with signaling and muscle control, any damage to them causes loss of voluntarily (and eventually involuntary) muscle control.

There is no cure for ALS, and as the disease progresses, about half of those who develop it die within 3 years of diagnosis.

Being such a dangerous disease, it’s a uplifting to know that type 2 diabetes may actually prevents ALS.

For the study, the team analyzed data obtained from Danish nationals. The data included information on 3,650 patients who were diagnosed with ALS between 1982 and 2009. The data of these patients were compared with data obtained from 365,000 healthy individuals.

The results showed a significantly lower occurrence of ALS among people who had been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. So although ALS is extremely rare (2:100,000 people), this is a little light in the dark for those suffering type 2 diabetes. On the contrary, type 1 diabetes was, however, found to be a risk factor for ALS.

Now, why this happens is still a mystery and further research is needed. But it might possibly lead to a cure of ALS at some point down the road.

If you suffer type 2 diabetes, I’m sure you still want to take action to reverse it. And it can be done naturally.
