A well-known Harvard cardiologist and professor discovered a simple technique in the early 70s that lower blood pressure more effectively than drugs.
His technique was ignored, silenced, or ridiculed by the traditional medical and educational system. But it was also welcomed by thousands of his readers, who successfully cured their blood pressure.
In today’s article, I’m going to teach you a powerful version of his technique that only takes a minute to learn.
Dr. Herbert Benson developed his technique based on transcendental meditation (TM) in Harvard Medical School in the early 1970s. He then went on to write several New York Times bestsellers on what he called “The Relaxation Response.”
In essence, any relaxation technique will benefit your blood pressure. Some use deep breathing, others yoga, step-by-step muscle relaxation, or meditation. All this is helpful.
Benson’s technique goes like this:
1) Sit down in a quiet place. A comfortable chair, upright in your bed or any other comfortable place will work. Wear loose-fitting clothes that do not restrict your breathing.
2) Take a deep breath. Feel your diagram expand fully. Now exhale completely. Repeat this a few times until you feel the tension leave your body.
3) Now pick a positive word or a short sentence (or prayer) and repeat it in your mind for 10 – 20 minutes. At the same time, keep on breathing deeply and exhaling fully.
This technique may seem very simple but don’t think its simplicity makes it ineffective. It has helped thousands of people all over the world to lower their blood pressure naturally.
The problem with Benson’s technique is that as simple as it sounds on paper it’s not as easy to master. Otherwise, I guess we’d all be enlightened beings.
It’s also the child of its time. Since then, lots of us natural health people have worked hard on improving his technique to be as powerful as possible in relaxing your system and lowering blood pressure.
For example, I added a little physical twist to it. So while inducing complete relaxation, an additional (extremely easy) exercise also connects more to your body to lower your blood pressure even more effectively.
I put these exercises on audio, so all you have to do is follow along as I guide you through them. Nothing to learn or master.
