This Innocent Medication Causes Type 2 Diabetes (avoid if possible)Almost everyone has taken these drugs at one time or another. They have saved millions from dangerous diseases.

But, because of how effective they are, the modern doctor tends to overuse them. And that has been found to cause deadly type 2 diabetes.

And by overusing, we’re only talking about 2-5 times in your LIFETIME.

Antibiotics are risky, especially if overused, considering how it can cause bacterial resistance.

Now there’s one more reason why you should exercise caution – a new study by a team of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania have discovered that a repeated course of antibiotics could lead to another troublesome condition.

The study revealed that people who had ever been prescribed two or more courses of an antibiotic were at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those who were prescribed one course or no antibiotics at all in their lives.

For the study, the researchers first examined the antibiotic prescription given at least a year before development of the condition in 208,002 people with type 2 diabetes. They compared this data with the prescriptions collected from 815,576 people without type 2 diabetes but the same average age of the other group.

Four major antibiotic categories were used in this study – penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones and macrolides.

To give you an idea:

• People who were prescribed two to five courses of penicillin were found to have an 8% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

• Those who were prescribed five or more courses of penicillin were found to have 23% higher risk compared to those who took one or no antibiotic course in their lives.

• Similarly, 2 to 5 courses of a class of drugs called quinolones shot up the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 15 percent. It goes up to 37 percent in those who took more than 5 courses.

In those who already have type 2 diabetes, antibiotics should be used with restraint. According to a Taiwan based research study on 78,000 people with type 2 diabetes, a particular class of antibiotics called ‘fluoroquinolones,’ widely used for treating bacterial infections, can pose a big problem. It was found to increase the risk of ‘dysglycemia’ or sudden increase or decrease in blood sugar that can be serious, especially for type 2 diabetics.

Gut bacteria regulate crucial functions and any change in the population can induce obesity, type 2 diabetes and other problems. Antibiotics cause a disturbance in the normal population of gut bacteria thus indirectly causing type 2 diabetes, as well as inflammation and metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Gerald Bernstein, Director at Friedman Diabetes Institute, has pointed out that bacteria in one part of the body could cause inflammation in a completely different and unexpected part. A good example is how gingivitis, a gum problem, is closely connected to heart disease.

Even more worrisome is the fact that we ingest antibiotics not just from prescriptions given by physicians, but also by consuming red meats that can have high levels of antibiotics in them.

Now, there are times that you will have to take antibiotics. The best way to build your gut flora again quickly and remove the side effects of the antibiotics is to also use good quality probiotics. You can find probiotics in all health food stores.

Also, consume food high in probiotics. Kefir, sauerkraut, yogurt and pickles are just a few examples probiotic foods.
