Question: are you mentally 2.7 years older than most people your age?
You might be. You might not. But if you have high blood pressure, there’s a high chance your brain has aged more rapidly.
Which could lead to this pretty scary disease very easily, and leave you almost helpless.
A research study conducted in Johns Hopkins University spanning 20 years focused on the link between high blood pressure and mental health. The study collected blood pressure readings and mental performance data from more than 13,000 adults from the early 1990s to 2013. The participants were divided into 3 groups – those who had normal blood pressure, those who had ‘pre-hypertension and those with high blood pressure.
The people who were chosen for the study ranged in age from 48 and 67 years old. The mental tests used in the study include verbal, memory and math problems. The first round of tests was conducted in 1990-1992. The tests were repeated next in 1996-1998 and finally in 2011-2013. By the end of the study, only a little more than 5000 persons were alive to provide data.
When comparing the results of the initial round to the final round of assessments, there was found to be a 6.5 percent decline in mental performance of those with high blood pressure. It might look like a modest difference, but it is actually the same as being mentally about 2.7 years older than the normal population. This can, in turn, increase the risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
The study might not have proved a direct correlation between high blood pressure and Alzheimer’s disease, but it does show how they are associated. So, what can you do from your end? If you already don’t follow a healthy diet, keep active, and lower stress, it’s a good time to start right away.

What is the real reason people are afflicted with Alzheimer, Dementia, Bipolar and many other diseases that seem to be increasing around the world. How about the blood pressure tablets, of the cholesterol tablets, or the sleeping tablets or the depression tablets etc etc etc. These all play a big part in destroying the brain, along with MSG which are hidden under other names to disguise the fact that a product has MSG. And what about all the food additives that are destroying the brain stem and the neurons and the cells. Just the fact that you have blood pressure does not mean that you are going to get Alzheimer. The FDA know full well what these exitotoxins in food that they approved of is doing to the population of people all over the world that have these frankenfoods added to our foods. I have been reading a book by a Dr Russell L Blaylock neurologist and neurosurgery and he explains what MSG and all these additives are doing to our brain. There is no doubt anymore who is killing our brains and why. It has to do with the big companies and kickback they give the fraud and deception Association lol…… Money speaks in large volumes and tests done by these companies are false full of lies. Read the book it will blow you away. I was appalled to read that baby formula has MSG as does baby food. If they don’t care about these innocent little angels why would they care about you. Deception is their middle name.
I think so many diseases are caused by high blood pressure that doctors haven’t discovered the connection to yet. It’s the silent killer but also an obvious killer.
