Looking for the most effective 1-2 punch for knocking out diabetes without having to resort to dangerous prescription drugs? Canadian researchers have found the best combo, as a recent study shows.
What is the magic combination that has people ditching diabetes for a healthier lifestyle without needing medications?
Jump into cardio-kick workouts and stock up on olive oil, says research out of Canada recently, if you’re looking to eliminate type 2 diabetes.
Researchers have known that replacing unhealthy food choices with those typical of a Mediterranean diet will go a long way in improving blood glucose levels. Such diets are abundant in fresh vegees, whole grain foods, fish (as opposed to red meat) and olive oil for cooking.
They also have known that getting more active will improve the numbers, too. But what about combining High Intensity Interval Training (or HIIT) with the Mediterranean diet?
Would the results be even better?
The answer is a resounding “yes,” according to the research. While making the changes alone account separately for an 8-10% improvement in blood glucose, researchers found that pairing the two approaches together reflected improvements of more than 23% in just 6 weeks’ time.
A HIIT exercise routing is characterized by intervals of high intensity cardiovascular training, such as cardio-kick, alternated with less intense intervals like walking in place.
I was once diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes. Not completely unexpected as I come from a diabetic family. But what was not expected was that I would take medication for the rest of my life. I refused to accept that. I bought The Diabetes Program by Jodi (Blue Heron) and I followed it religiously. When I was due for a glucose test and the results came out, the GP ordered a repeat and they were the same. The sugar lever had dropped significantly and the medication was reduced. I did not take the medication and simply kept the prescription at home. After three months I went for another glucose test. The GP was very impressed and she said she would reduce the medication further but I innocently told her that I had not taken any medication for the last three months! She said it was not wise on my part but I answered that I was not ready to take medication for life. That was four years ago and I am still diabetes free. I still go for glucose levels test every three months. While going to the office, Monday to Friday, I leave the car at home and walk four miles to the train station, brisk walking. The same walk in the evening. I eat healthy food with lots of vegetables. I juice raw vegetables and eat the pulp with beans, beans, basmati rice. . . True, once in a while you will find me eating a rich cake with my eyes closed and an occasional tear (I have a very sweet tooth!) but I watch what I eat.
I do not work for Blue Heron but if you have diabetes and want to get rid of it fast, grab their Diabetes Program and follow it religiously and you will not only be surprised at your quick recovery but your GP will be more surprised!
All the very best,
