With weight issues being named as the key cause of type 2 diabetes, between-meal snacking has an obvious negative tone.
There is, however, one snack that stands out for people with metabolic disorder and /or type 2 diabetes, as the far-and-away winner for helping the body to metabolize glucose.
Recent studies on diabetic mice have shown that those who had increased levels of arginine consumption were also the ones most likely to improve their blood glucose- even by more than 40%.
Arginine is an amino acid found in many foods, but particularly in nuts like hazelnuts and Brazil nuts.
Swedish scientists observed that mice who consumed the highest levels of arginine improved their diabetes the most.
The researchers cautioned, though, that simply going out for supplements isn’t the way to get the most useable levels of the critical amino acid. They advise that if you don’t have a nut allergy, then the best possible source for arginine is to get it naturally through the consumption of nuts every day.
Great
I do like to eat especially hazelnuts and brazil nuts. I buy a special can of deluxe mixed nuts because the mix has more of the preferred types of nuts; I try to keep them on hand, and unsalted as well; but the store I get them from is often out, or has just one can available, and I eat nuts daily. 1 can does not last long. I need to tell the store they would sell more if they had them on the shelf. Wonder why I like especially those nuts? I do eat almonds and walnuts and other nuts, and I eat a decent handfull every day. I don’t like, however, that your articles will not print out like they used to, because I like to keep my file in good shape, the file on Blue Heron Health News articles. Thank you for sharing this great article. I do not use FB and I do tell my friends and relatives and anyone who will listen, that this is the health news which I like better than most others. Eat some Brazil nuts, folks! georgia c. here
This is a great information. Nuts are a real wonder food. They are good for blood pressure, brains and in general to maintain good health.
I agree with Georgia, I also would love to be able to print those great articles. I keep them as a reminder what to eat and what to avoid and new health related studies.
Thanks !
Great article! Absolutely fabulous. I was diagnosed with diabetes Type2 few years ago. I bought the Blue Heron Diabetes Guide. I followed the diet therein including the nuts (almonds, walnuts etc) and now I have no diabetes. I am not on any medication. I have no signs of it. I still have a handful of almonds and walnuts with my Greek style yogurt every day. I eat a table spoonful of linseed and pumpkin seeds every morning.
Keep up your good work, Blue Heron. If it was not for you, I would still be taking those dreadful diabetes tablets.

I TOO WOULD LIKE TO SEE A PRINTABLE VERSION OF YOUR ARTICLES WITHOUT ALL THE PICTURES AND ADDS. DON SELF
Kiwi fruit are one of the best forms of arginine…..a protein in a fruit!……green or yellow but rinse your mouth with water afterwards as they are very acidic and hard on your teeth…..Dont clean your teeth right after eating either…..for your enamels sake.
Brasil nuts are high in selenium and are great for your prostate…..3 a day keeps the doctor away!
