Yet another study is out proving that one particular berry has been shown- again- to have a great impact on heart health.

This time the study was particularly focused on men who are pre-diabetic and suffering from metabolic syndrome.

The benefits of eating grapes have been shown to be a triple-punch of healthy components, as recently published in the Journal for Clinical Nutrition.

Research shows that the polyphenols in grapes can improve blood flow and also lower blood pressure in men with metabolic syndrome, but they can also greatly reduce inflammation- the source of most chronic diseases.

Polyphenols are a powerful group of antioxidants that combat free radicals, whose sole mission is to steal electrons from healthy cells, weakening them and causing inflammation.

People suffering from metabolic syndrome have a collection of inflammation-based conditions, such as high blood pressure, decreased insulin sensitivity, high blood sugar, low HDL cholesterol, high triglycerides and others. The syndrome is also marked by obesity and a high percentage of belly fat.

The study that was published didn’t even have to use fresh, raw grapes to see benefits. It used freeze-dried grape powder. It isn’t clear yet how much more of a benefit would have been seen to use un-processed, fresh grapes instead.

While watching sugar consumption is important for those with increased blood sugars, the benefits of eating grapes- any variety- at about a half cup to a cup per day can actually eventually eliminate the problem altogether when consumed in concert with other inflammation-fighting foods.
