There is one ingredient that’s a major contributor to almost all modern diseases. Avoiding this ONE ingredient will drastically improve, even cure type 2 diabetes, arthritis and hypertension, just to name a few health problems.
I believe it will soon be exposed publicly as the biggest contributor to cancer- even more than smoking.
And I would go so far to say it’s the single reason obesity has become so common over the last 30 years.
Even more, although it’s included on almost all dinner tables (as well as lunch and breakfast), it’s by all definitions nothing less than a poison. And whether you know it or not, you’re consuming a big quantity of this poison.
That’s why, in today’s article I’m going to expose this poison, tell you why and how to avoid it and what to use instead to improve all health issues.
You may have been aware of a battle between the sugar industry and the corn industry (making high fructose corn syrup) over which one is less healthy.
Due to this battle, many manufactures are now making processed foods and drinks using cane or beet sugar instead of HFCS.
But guess what? Even if HFCS is probably even worse than sugar due to the chemical processing it takes to make it, both products are poison.
Both HFCS and regular sugar are pretty close to 50% glucose and 50% fructose.
Whereas glucose is actually quite healthy and can be absorbed by almost all cells in the body, fructose is poison that needs to be processed by the liver before it can be used anywhere.
And once processed by the liver, majority of the fructose is transformed directly into fat and stored all over the body.
One place fructose is stored is in the pancreas. It also acts as a block on the cell’s insulin receptors. This is one of the main causes of Type 2 Diabetes.
Fructose also elevates uric acid, which triggers inflammation all over the body. This again causes arthritis, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. This uric acid has also been linked to cause all major cancers.
As if this wasn’t enough, fructose also creates all kinds of hormone changes. One thing it does is blocks insulin release. Therefore, cells don’t absorb the energy from the blood stream and blood sugar levels spike. The only way to get rid of the sugar is by storing it as fat. Since glucose and fructose are often consumed together (in sugars) this is especially dangerous.
One strange dynamic about fructose is, unlike any other food you consume, it doesn’t tell you when you’re full. So if you consume 500 calories of glucose and other nutrition from pasta, at some point there is a feedback curve to your brain telling your appetite you had enough.
This doesn’t happen with fructose. Not only that, it may even trigger more hunger. So now you may consume 300 calories from fructose but your body doesn’t sense it as nutrition so you’re still hungry. You then consume another 300 calories from other kinds of food. Since they’re extra calories you didn’t really need, they’re transformed directly into fat.
So where are you getting your fructose from?
Any kind of sugar contains around 50% fructose. This includes HFCS, cane sugars, honey, syrup, sugars in orange juice etc. And although the fructose is packaged differently in these products, once broken down in the body, there is no difference.
And the average person is consuming a frightening amount of fructose!
Can you imagine that you’re most likely eating 1/3 or a pound sugar EVERY DAY! And half of it is fructose. This is how much the average American consumes. And this may be true for you even if you don’t ever scoop out the white powder yourself.
Sugar or HFCS is an ingredient in every type of processed food. It’s added to almost all non-diet drinks. Sometimes even the steak you buy in your local supermarket has been seasoned with sugar without labeling it.
The amount of sugar consumption for the last 30 years has multiplied. Mostly because of the increase in cheap HFCS that can be added to almost all kinds of processed food and drinks.
One of the reasons food makers are using so much sugar is because of the low-fat trend. When all fat is taken out of most cooked foods and pastries, the feeling and taste of it is very dry and unappealing. To counteract this HFCS is added in.
Whereas fat consumption has gone down from 40% to 30% of overall calories for the last 30 years, sugar consumption in various forms has gone way up. And cases of obesity and chronic diseases are soaring. Eating fat was never the problem.
There is a direct (and I mean absolutely direct) correlation between the consumption of sugars (specially HFCS) and increase in type 2 diabetes.
High blood pressure and high cholesterol cases are on a steep rise as well. Never before have as many people been medicated for these health problems as now. And cases are getting younger and younger.
The most visual consequence of the big sugar consumption is of course obesity. USA is leading the way but both Europe and Asia and even some parts of Africa are catching up fast. Being overweight has become the rule instead of the exception.
So if you accept that whatever health problem you’re fighting, fructose is a major player, what can you do about it?
The first thing is to become aware that sugar is in all processed food. Some microwave foods, for example, include more sugars than cakes and donuts. All drinks except diet drinks (that may even be worse for different reason) are also loaded with sugar.
So avoiding processed food is essential. If you want to take this issue to the max, this means cooking at home most of the time or eating out at places that specialize in healthy diets.
Replacing all sodas and other drinks (including fruit drinks) with water may get you quite far. Many of those drinks also include other chemicals so you’re killing two birds with one stone.
Don’t be afraid to use healthy fats. Fatty parts of the meat, olive oil and other healthy oils and even full fat milk is not going to hurt you. If you are including this into your cooking and therefore using less sugar, you’re doing much better.

Why is the food manufactures hell bent on killing its customers!
This article was great. I’ve heard that sugar was not really good for you, but never heard the breakdown involving Fructose as you explained. Where did your research come from?
What about the fructose in fruits? Most of the fruit that we consider to be healthy contains fuctose, which used to be called fruit sugar?
I live in the uk so what can i obtain that informs me how to understand foods to avoid
Good article, but what about whole fruit?? We need fruit in our diets however the sugar in them is fructose?? Slightly confusing. And raw honey is very beneficial do these pro’s outweigh the cons???
Whist I believe you have the best intentions I think you are falling into the same trap as the medical professions and that’s over stating your case and causing a reaction that in time you will find, like the salt, eggs, prawns that we eat, turns out to be an over reaction which could possibly lead to the revaluation that we’ve done it wrong again. I feel very strongly that people should avoid all processed food but mostly because of the colours, flavour and additives. I believe that natural sugars like honey or maple syrup will be found to contain chemicals which stop the fructose from causing the problem that refined/processed sugars may cause. ALL THINGS IN MODERATION and A LITTLE OF WHAT YOU FANCY DOES YOU GOOD are old fashioned sayings I know but I think they provide a good blue print for life. We ALL need to watch our weight, get exercise and eat as healthily as possible, that’s for sure, but the OCASSIONAL treat, glass of wine, couple of sweets etc. in my opinion won’t hurt us and in fact might even do us good. I think guilt and worry are also big killers and I for one am starting to worry about everything I put in my mouth as there’s always someone telling me there’s something in it that’s going to kill me. Now I have to worry because the fruit that I love to eat but can’t manage without a bit of honey or maple syrup is a no no……
Please help us get these things into proportion. How much honey is too much honey for example. I also feel more specific research is needed before these daming statement are made. Your own self help programmes recommend the use of honey as a remedy. Isn’t that in direct conflict with this article?
This is a great article for me and older people who have arthritis to contend with as much as I do. To make it worse, I have a genetic bone disease, as does many members of my family. I have eaten sugar in all forms all my life and although I’ve known of its dangers, I never realized the extent to which it might be aggravating my problems or the rampant bone and arthritic problems in my family. Perhaps with this information I can begin to do something to make a difference in the quality of my life now at age 75 as well as within the rest of my family.
I have avoided sugar and all processed foods being diagnosed as a diabetic, but I use powdered fructose from fruit not corn to rise my bread since it did not raise my blood sugar so what do I use instead?
good, really very good
i hav not seen a full detailed program
Would it be a good idea to use replace sugar with glucose.
Fruit is good as it contains fibre and is a whole food and is chocker with vitamins and minerals plus bioflavanoids… especially in the skins of oranges and lemons. …some fruits have more fructose than others.Avoiding processed foods is the way to go..anything out of a box….fruit and veg are the way to go…the less processed the better…so an apple or an orange will always win over juice.
HELP… I don't even know where to begin!
Christian,
Have you heard of the Australian David Gillepsie and his book, “Sweet Poison”?
It’s been sensational in Australia. Check it out at: http://www.howmuchsugar.com/
You are confirming his results. Sugar – especially fructose – is the demon in the obesity epidemic, not fat. The dieticians are wrong in blaming fat which my ancestors – dairy farmers – consumed in large quantities. They lived to be octagenarians and even nonagenarians consuming whole raw milk. Their descendants are not attaining their age. Despite medications we’re falling off the perch in our seventies and early eighties.
It’s becoming increasingly clear that processed foods with their high levels of fructose are the reason for the obesity epidemic, not sloth as government health officials proclaim.
Hooray!!!
About time it became general knowledge and this article helps.
The vested interests cannot stop it when there is a groundswell of support from the public!
Now you have to go after the oil seed industry and its wretched polyunsaturated fats, margarines and the like.
And promote saturated fat [Beef fat, coconut and other fruit oils, full fat dairy, cream and butter].
You know if industry starts putting good fats back into processed foods they will regain their taste and it won’t be necessary to add sugars which is what happens now to stop it all tasting like cardboard.
You don’t get fat from eating saturated and monounsaturated fats.
You get fat because bad fats stop you feeling satisfied, so you overeat.
It’s not willpower at fault.
When it comes to fruit sugar it’s like this;
Eat a piece of fruit and you get the fibre which slows down digestion. Your liver can handle that.
Drink fruit juice which has no fibre and the poison is released immediately.
For example, you drink one 250mm glass of apple juice, that takes five seconds. It is the same amount of fructose as 3 apples. You can’t eat 3 apples in 5 seconds. In fact if you eat one apple you won’t want any more.
Processed food has all fibre taken out to extend shelf life. They don’t care if it doesn’t extend ours.
What about sugars in fresh fruit?
Money!Money!
I try to avoid things with FRUCTOSE as much as possible.
Will have to WATCH what I buy, read LABLES more.
Nancy Ann Sisco.
they are trying ti get you addicted!!
Cut OUT soda and any other sweet processed drinks and drink more H2O
Just quit the sugar, it is simple. Duh!
Ilove this info Thank-You!
I’m getting this same kind of info from Dr. Sears & I’ve gone a long way toward changing the kinds of foods I eat. I’m feeling better.
Since fruit contains fructose, albeit with a good amount of fiber and plant nutrients, does what you say above mean that one shouldn't eat any fruit?
Where does one start? The Walker's
Thanks for ur advice, yes its true that sugar is not good in our health,Im using honey instead of those harmful food! There are alot of natural honey in my country Tanzania
very good artcle, also consumer should be moore keene to read the labels
It's not the same as HFCS. Fruit sugar doesn't go through a manufacturing process. Still, if you have high glucose levels you have to be careful even with fruits.
How come Honey contains Fructose?
I totally agree with what you havewritten, i pesonally have cut sugar out of my diet, as far as possible.I never drink soft drinks, water is the best substitute.I've also tried to cut out a lot of processed foods.
so what you are saying , certainly makes sense, thank you.
Christine, what a beautiful name you have. I have lived all around and I so appreciate different and musical names! John, I had to give up whites; sugar, rice, potatoes, etc. Brown and wild rice, fruits rather than juices. No sodas, Golden and red potatoes, Plus, I have some problem with meats. They give me severe arthritis pains which do not recede so, gone is Beef, Turkey, Lamb, Bison, and some Chicken. I eat cualiflower mixed with potatoes; and now I am learning to give up powdered milk, which is a conflicted form due to its process and treatment of milk cows in the US. Don’t know where to go for organic cow milk, since our cows are fed too much corn and things they would not eat naturally. Some countries still graze their cows; not ours. Their cows are healthy, and their milk and fat and meat is healthy.
Jodi; great article. Really consternates my peace, though. I want to know how to make great bread and be a good cook without the type of sugar we have. I do not live near a large city where organics and grazed beef and milk from them might be obtained.
I did just buy a masticating juicer; and am seriously wondering where I can find these wonderful organic fruits and mainly vegetables to help my body recuperate from high sugars, high blood pressure, and my weight and RA and high CRP and high inflammation which are all killing me. I am so limited now as to where I can go, and how long I can or cant walk. I need answers with these bits of new info, because I am ready to give up whatever i need to for better health, or I’m gone. georgia (again, great work, Jodi)
David Servan-Schreiber in "Anticancer – Prevenir et lutter grace 'a nos defenses naturelles" explains how cancer is fed by sugar. It worth reading his book (wrote after having discovered cancer in his brain), which supports the conclusions of this article.
As for whole milk and fatty parts of meat (healthy fat?), the auhtor could elaborate a bit more. To what extent are they really healthy?
A very useful information but i think it fall short a bit about Fruit,s Fructose. fruits are being count containing a healthy fiber eliments. Will you please come clear on this.
Thanks
The fruit nonetheless has high amounts of essential ingredients when eaten in it's natural state ,,, it would seem to me to that one must curb the processed foods or canned fruit Try unprocessed raw nuts in addition to raw fruits and veeggies.
Start a gradual withdrawal from eating Cakes cookies and a few other popular things on the SAD [Standard American Diet].
Plain and simple … BIG BUCKS …
Start by eliminitating and replacing foods that are bought in packaged nice and tidy on your grocers shelf
This also includes "Diet" POP Try to find Seltzer that has no aded chemicals … Write a letter to all pop manufacturers that you'd like to have them make Club Soda without added chemicals … Read the labels… most pop lists Sodium as one of the ingredidents…. for water use a filter system …
I thank you for all the tips of information, it makes me wiser for now and I will apply it, practice it, to teach my children to be aware the ingredients what they buy.God bless.
May I suggest a inexpensive way to get the processed foods out. Buy yourself a Juice maker [serveral are sold in hardware stores] and make fruit juices and experiment by adding a couple of carrots and a small piece of ginger. You are in control here.
I agree 100% I started with 213 pounds in 4-21-2012 and now 7-29-2012 I am now 187 pounds only by cutting sugar same food same amount same workout. no more candies, milk, sugar in tea or coffee, no more sugar at all even fruit is one apple a day and that is it. I am very happy for this no sugar diet.
i too agree with no sugar diet.thnks for your information it really helped me.:)
i am not aware of what i intake, thank you
Thank you Christian for this great article. We need more information on fruits, natural honey, pink potatoes, pine apple etc that has fructose. When i was diagnosed hypertensive i stoped al forms of processed foods. I have also stopped my medications sinc march 2012. I have been on veg. And honey with the 3 exercise program daily. Although my readings still not appreciable, at times 140/90 or 135/80, iam yet to get the 120/70 or less as advertised in your write up. However, i am strong. What could i be doing wrong even with your Hp lowering program since march when i started using the exercise. I keep on exercise though. I believe age has a role to play in BP reading. What is your take. Keep on doing good works.
Of course fructose is in sugar cane. It naturally occurs in fruits, vegetables and plants! How can you compare it to the artificially contrived High Fructose corn syrup which is the true dietary culprit in so much processed foods – put there by greed-laced manufacturers to make their worthless garbage tasteful.
all ready cut out the sodas! – NOT that simple when you see how many things have fructose in them!
Thank you. I have cut out the HFCS & can not tell you what a difference it has made. Also friend & I have zeroed in on Soy. What a difference! We read the labels & know the restaurants to avoid! We even checked out the capsules that medicine comes in! Thanks.
Good input. I am in total agreement with you. Thanks for bringing it out in such a simple way.
Hi…indeed a good article, but there never seems to be any follow-up to the questions asked in these articles…more than usual in this one, because it affects just about everyone thats curious. The non-curious will never read the article anyway!
Our DrBriffa on the uk side of the pond writes very similar themed blogs, that generate comments from professionals and folk alike, but he always acknowledges sources and follows up specific queries.
Thanks fopr this article. Am a little confusued. I thought I read in one of your article that its best to avoid milk as its a major source of inflammation etc….or did I read that wrongly?
Type 1 diabetes in an Autoimmune disease, where the body kills the Insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. No cure must take Insulin injection for life. Type 2 diabetes is very different it can be classified in to two: Insulin Resistance and Insulin Fatigue, both are CURABLE. For Type 2 diabetes: Substitute Fructose which has a high Glycemic Index, with Stevia which is 300 times sweater then Fructose, but has a Glycemic Index of less than one. Also Take more Vegis, Fibrous food and avoid all processed food, as they have low Gycemic Index. (Brown Rice instead of White), (Whole grain instead of Refined grain). Take more Protein it helps in the secretion of Glucagon hormone from Pancreas which is just as important as Insulin in controlling blood sugar levels. Also 30 min or aerobic exercise is highly beneficial.
For Cancer: Take more food which are Alkaline in nature (Has a PH above 7) Cancer cells can't survive in Alkaline environment. Some doctors in the west have successfully treated patient with terminal Cancer with Baking Soda, which is highly Alkaline in nature. REMEMBER Cancer can reoccur more than 6 times in a persons life. Chemo and Radiation don't kill all the cancer cells, they just reduces the number below a threshold. At a PH of 8.5 and above not a single Cancer cell can survive in the body. Take supplements with-ve ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) like green tea extract, Cod liver oil, drinking Alkaline Ionized water to get rid of free radicals (Free Radicals are responsible for the spread and multiplication of Cancer cells).
For Hypertension: Avoid fast food and Snacks like potato chips and processed food which have high Salt (which is a good preservative) in them. Limit your Salt intake to less than 3 g or one table spoon of Salt. Don't go overboard, Sodium is a very important nutrient need for Muscle function (Remember Heart is a muscle), Nerve Impulses, getting nutrients into body cells through Osmosis. Professional athletes have DIED because of Sodium shortage. Sodium works in conjunction with Potassium in our body. Their ideal ration is 1:1, but because of our dietary habits we get far more Sodium then Potassium. This ratio is much more important than just the amount of Salt we eat. So increase your potassium intake by eating foods like Banana, raisins etc. Min 8 hour sleep and controlling stress levels is also very important.
Could one then replace sugar with natural honey?
Thank you for blowing the whistle on this poison!
I amazes me that there are still so many who deny truths such as this, in lue of the facts that are being given about the diseases chemical sugars can/do cause.
The beverage and soda industies are now being compared to the tobacco industry with respect to their public health concerns, their apathy & lack of action to end the spread of current health epidemics in the US.
I Have been doing the breathing exercise That i got from you for High Blood Pressure and it 11 below normal,Thank you so much.
I love Honey,i would like to know how much and how often you can Honey and be safe.
I had Breast Cancer in 03-2009,i hope i don’t ever get it again. What are some foods i can eat and avoid to keep me cancer free?
Hello, Everyone.
Christian, I enjoy your articles very much, and you do a great job on pulling these pieces of info and sharing with us. However, I would like to disagree on the honey “horror” here — you need to check your facts more thoroughly. There is some research which suggests that fructose in honey does not behave the same way as fructose in sugar/corn syrop. I am not suggesting that everyone reading this should start just eat honey, but people, you might want to do some research before completely eliminating honey from your diet, since it is one of the best sources to get your “sugar” which your brain does need. Check out this link http://blog.cholesterol-and-health.com/2010/10/high-fructose-corn-syrup-is-sweet.html to start with and read more as you require. A fact from life: my mother-in-law is type 2 diabetic. Her sugar spikes if she eats a couple of garpes or tiny slice of watermelon. It DOES NOT CHANGE though when she eats honey (she takes 2 teaspoons a day of raw unheated). Does not matter when she takes it in the day either. I think it is important for it to be raw and unheated, too. So as always: trust, but verify!
Whilst I also agree to a point that white sugar is a poison of sorts, I have a case to contradict those findings. My Father God Rest His Soul, lived till he was 105 years young, he was born 1896 and died 2001, he drank at least ten cups of tea a day, without fail for most of his life.
We all called him a teapot.
Tea in itself isn’t a real problem but, four spoons of sugar is and that is what he always put in his cup and demanded the same if you made him a cup of tea.
So what would have happened if he had not consumed so much sugar, would he still be alive today. He never had hypertension, he almost never got sick, he ate dripping (Animal Fat) on thick white bread most every day of the week and piled salt on his food at the dinner table. But rode a cycle each day for seventy years of his life and grew his own vegetables. He didn’t drink alcohol and although he smoked rollup tobacco until he was fifty he lived without all of the malady’s that seem to affect a lot of people today…..so what’s the real answer………it’s the hand of cards that you are dealt at birth….each of us is allotted a certain time on the planet…and when your time is up, your time is UP………….?
Taylor Carman You might consider eliminating milk from youtr diet. While you are at it look up A1 Beta Casein and Lactose. Eliminating milk from my diet eliminated my rheumatism, headaches, sinus problem and bouts of pneumonia. It will pay you to look up DOGTORJ…cLINT
Google. "Is Alzheimer a form of diabetes." A carbohydrate diet creates enormous amounts of sugar for the body, the body seeks to protect itself from that overload of sugar by sending insulin in to remove that sugar and store it as fat to protect the body from serious harm that sugar can cause to our health. The trouble is people eat a mainly carbohydrate diet, so sugar and insulin are a constant problem to the body. Insulin is for emegencies only, but peoples diets have made it a constant in their bodies where it is a highly disruptive hormone that does all kinds of damage in such extreme quantities as caused by an unhealthy excessive carbohydrate diet. A diet which changes ALL carbohydrates into glucose in the body; hence the excessive insulin. Insulin is high in the brain of those with Alzheimers. Sugar is one of the main causes of many modern diseases, obesity being but one. Interestingly natural fat does not put weight on, only a carbohydrate diet does that.Scientists in South Africa assessed the potential of Aspartame's (artificial sweetener) components, phenylalanine and aspartic acid, methanol, and its breakdown product formaldehyde, on the brain. In their review, the authors details the ability of aspartame to disrupt the chemistry of the brain, including its potential to lower levels of key brain chemicals such as serotonin (which may adversely influence all sorts of things including mood, behaviour, sleep, and appetitie). They also note that it additionally has the potential to disrupt amino acid metabolism, nerve function and hormonal balance in the body. They go on to suggest that aspartame's ability to destroy nerve cells may mimic or even cause Alzheimers disease. Taken from trick and treat book by a barry groves. page 248. People must realise that fruit and veg are carbohydrates and turn to sugar in the body, so ALL carbohydrates should be cut to a minimum in ones diet. To drink a glass of wholesome fruit juice could be equivalent to eating several fruits in one glass, with sugar being a huge imposition on the body. Fatty meats, raw milk and raw butter and cheese, organic eggs, all good quality foods are very important. Make it your business to find out where your food comes from, and how the animals are fed so that you do not end up looking like a battery hen. You are what you eat. Most are obese, diabetic, cancerous, athritic, etc, etc, etc. Your life depends on it.
how about artificial sweeteners?
Watch Sweet Misery.
Avoid Aspartame, Neotame, Sucarol, Sucralose, Splenda,Sugar, Corn Syrup, Glucose Fructose, High Glucose Fructose.
They are DANGEROUS,TOXIC and lead to premature death causing cancer, liver/pancreatic damage, as well as causing neurological problems.
Watch Everything You Want To Know About GMO Foods
Avoid as they are also DANGEROUS and TOXIC.
Go organic. Go whole foods.
We should consumer 90% whole foods and 10% processed foods to be SAFE.
Larry Mc Millan its in all processed foods..and not all of us can afford the whole foods (organic) so called HEALTHY FOODS
The article is quite informative as I am health conscious. However, sometimes they seem conflicting. I have significantly reduced on my intake of sugar. Sometimes I use none. What I do is that I have significantly increased my intake of fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts. Most mornings I blend fruits with ginger, nuts and vegetables as part of my breakfast. I feel more healthy and encourage others to do the same. I try exercising but I have to be more consistent. This also helps a great deal. I can tell you that my body speaks to me.
Thanks for this timely information . I totally believe in your findings. Fresh fruits , nuts and vegetables , and exercise are good enough.
This is so so true. I have just finished reading David Gillespies book called Sweet Poison..and it is frightening. Food manufactor enterprises need a good kick up the arse as well as the Australian Government for allowing this killing epidemic to continue.
So true stop consuming fructose now
This is some awesome information, thank you for putting it out there for everyone to see.
No juicing needed, just eat real food.
Mutagenic wheat is the culpret for most of these people who think they have Celiac. The mutagenic wheat has a new protein (giadin) that is an allergen AND disruptor of an even blood sugar level.
Very good information, thank you very much. God bless you.
Please continue helping us when having time. I suffer hbp and try very hard, mostly naturally and I will follow your adfvises. thanks again. Nishant Bawa
Four year ago, I weighed nearly 300 pounds. I cut out sugar as much as I could and am now down to 195 pounds. Still have the diabetes, but it is under control with diet. So far.
Hi, Nishant,
Thanks for the info, but I am not a biochemist so I don''t have any idea about what foods have alkaline ph, how can I know which are they? I believe in what you say, it makes sense, but how can I have an alkaline diet?
Thank you so much for your time.
