Eating antioxidant foods or taking antioxidant supplements all help to eliminate heart disease and diabetes.
But recently scientists discovered a characteristic specific berries hold to turn on your body’s capability to boost its own antioxidant- making abilities.
The study, recently released from the School of Medicine at the University of Warwick in the UK, highlights a little-known protein that is activated by extracts in strawberries.
This healing protein, called Nrf2, is kicked into high gear within the body by these extracts and is responsible for generating antioxidant activity within the body.
The protein helps to decrease lipids in the blood. These are particularly harmful for diabetics, whose hearts are more susceptible to the damage of poorly metabolized blood lipids.
Berries of all kinds have been in the news recently for their many health benefits, specifically their anti-oxidant properties, and are in abundance during the summer.
Another benefit that makes strawberries the perfect addition to breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks is the high fiber content (3 grams per cup), which helps to balance the sugar for those who have to be mindful of fructose intake.
It has been shown in other studies that eating just a half cup of fresh or frozen strawberries once per day can counter post-meal glucose increases as well.

What strawberries are you describing here?
We know intensive cultivated fruits and vegetables are much diminished in nutritional value.
Only garden and farmers market produce will be even likely to have anywhere near the goodness of traditionally raised produce.
Keep this in mind anytime some foodstuff is touted as beneficial. Research it before publication, please.
It may be true but with a much diminished effect compared to the news bite.
It goes for animal produce too.
A battery raised chicken is not a good choice to eat because [ for example] the omega 3 oil in its chicken meat is almost zero while a bird free raised on grass etc has up to 250 times the level of omega 3 oil by comparison!
So is strawberries not good for diabetics or is that a misprint?
I have to say that strawberry is one of my favorite fruit and as soon as I’m done commenting on this article, I will be heading to the fruit store to get some, you realy motivated me to do so and by the way I’m diabetic I eat lots of vegetables and fruits such as: Greens,Strawberies, bluberries, rasberries ect…
Good job
Thanks
Thanks for the info!!! Strawberries taste great, especially the organically grown.
thanks for info on starwberry how about blue berries and is it ok to eat berries yoygurt daily and more health tips pls rdgs
love strawberries!
That’s real good to hear. I love strawberries, but need to caution that they definately need to be organic. Conventionally grown strawberries contain a significant amount of pesticides and other chemicals.
think she is referring to lipids being harmful for diabetics not strawberries but then raised lipids are bad for everyone unless its HDL [good chol] because that takes chol back to liver to dispose of.
